Reith Lectures adalah serangkaian kuliah radio tahunan di BBC yang diberikan oleh tokoh-tokoh terkemuka pada saat itu. Para tokoh ini diserahi tugas oleh BBC dan disiarkan di Radio 4 dan World Service . Kuliah tersebut bermula pada tahun 1948 untuk memperingati kontribusi bersejarah yang dilakukan bagi dunia penyiaran publik oleh Lord Reith , direktur jenderal pertama BBC.
Reith berpendapat bahwa penyiaran harus menjadi layanan publik yang bertujuan untuk memperkaya kehidupan intelektual dan budaya bangsa. Didorong oleh semangat ini, BBC mengundang tokoh-tokoh terkemuka untuk menyampaikan kuliah radio setiap tahunnya. Kuliah ini bertujuan untuk memajukan pemahaman dan perdebatan publik terkait isu-isu kontemporer.[ 1]
Pengajar Reith pertama adalah filsuf dan calon peraih Nobel , Bertrand Russell . Pengajar wanita pertama Reith adalah Margery Perham pada tahun 1961,[ 2] Colin Blakemore , yang berusia 32 tahun pada tahun 1976, ketika ia memberikan kuliah lebih dari enam episode mengenai otak dan kesadaran manusia.[ 3]
