Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion is an upcoming survival horror game being developed by MAGES and Team GrisGris and published by XSEED Games in North America and Marvelous in Europe.[1] The game will be launched on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows via Steam.

Makoto Kedoin, the original creator of the series, is returning to handle Scenario, and Yasuhiko Nomura is the producer. Unlike Blood Drive and Book of Shadows, Darkness Distortion is a standalone sequel. After being delayed once, the game is expected to release in 2025.[1]

Gameplay

Darkness Distortion is a 3D survival horror game, taking place in a hospital. The player must inspect items and their surroundings in order to progress.

Premise

The game is a standalone sequel to previous releases in the Corpse Party series.

From XSEED:

"Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion follows three high school friends; Haruka Nanami, Nemu Takanashi, and Maria Hitsugi, as they explore the Amare Est Vivere Hospital, testing a local urban legend as the streamer Nemu seeks to boost her subscriber count. Unfortunately for the three girls, the legend of "Ayame's Mercy" is true, and they trigger a decades-old curse that sends them into a dark realm. Together they must avoid the vengeful spirit of Ayame Kirishima and other horrors from the hospital's dark past as they search for a way to dispel Ayame's curse once and for all."

Development

Darkness Distortion was announced by MAGES and Team GrisGris in August 2023.[2]

Xseed Games officially announced the game would be localized on March 28, 2024, with a trailer and a release date of sometime in the following Fall. Preorders also went on sale at this point, and the Ayame's Mercy Edition was announced as well.[3] Despite this, the game saw a delay and was pushed to 2025.[1][4] The developers said that the game was delayed in the interest of making the game higher quality.[5]

Release

According to GameStop, the game is expected to ship on December 31, 2025.[6]

Along with the digital version, XSEED has announced two physical release of the game; a standard edition, and a collector's release titled "Ayame's Mercy Edition." The physical game includes a reversible cover, an LED candle, a 64-page artbook, an art card, a set of items from the game, and a steelbook case.[1][7]
