Government Major Projects Portfolio

The Government Major Projects Portfolio is a collection of large-scale developments under the control of the Government of the United Kingdom.[1][2]

History

The portfolio was established in 2013.[3] Originally, the portfolio was managed by the Major Projects Austhority, until it was merged with the Infrastructure and Projects Authority in 2016.[4]

The functions of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority were transferred to the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority in April 2025.[1][5][6]

Projects

The portfolio contains four categories of project:[7]

  • government transformation and service delivery
  • military capability
  • infrastructure and construction
  • information and communication technology

As of 2025, 68 of the 227 schemes in the portfolio are infrastructure and construction schemes.[8]

Projects are rated according to a "Red, Amber and Green" traffic light-style scheme to indicate how likely they are to succeed.[9]
