The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is an American supersonic multirole fighter aircraft originally developed for the United States Air Force . It has since been adopted by numerous air forces worldwide, and has been in near-continuous production since 1974, totaling approximately 4,600 aircraft. As newer variants have entered service, large numbers of older models have been placed on display around the world following their retirement.[ 1]
