NewsBreak is a local news aggregation platform founded in 2015.[1] It provides a mobile app and website to deliver geographically specific news to users across the United States.[2][3] The company is headquartered in Mountain View, with offices in New York, Seattle, WA, Beijing and Shanghai.[4][5] HistoryNewsBreak (a trade name of Particle Media[6]) was founded by Jeff Zheng "as a subsidiary of Yidian, a Chinese news aggregation app" in 2015.[5][7] Legal mattersIn 2021, NewsBreak settled a lawsuit brought by Emmerich Newspapers for copyright infringement as NewsBreak had republished content from their newspapers without their permission. Emmerich operates newspapers in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. As of June, 2024, another lawsuit brought by Emmerich against Newsbreak had not yet reached a conclusion.[5] In 2022, NewsBreak settled a lawsuit brought by Patch Media alleging copyright infringement due to unauthorized republication of their content by NewsBreak for $1.75 million without the admission of wrongdoing.[5] References
