Union of Democrats for Development

The Union of Democrats for Decentralization (French: Union des Démocrates pour la Décentralisation, UDD) was a political party in the Comoros led by Ibrahim Halidi. Based on Anjouan, it was supportive of the government of President Said Mohamed Djohar.^[1]. He was created in December 1991 by Ibrahim Halidi Abderemane, Saïd El Anis Mohamed Djohar^[2] and Mohamed Dhakoine Abdou, and he was as emblem a black umbrella.

History

UDD was created in December 1991. In the 1992 parliamentary elections the UDD arrived first^[3] and emerged as the largest party in the Assembly of the Union, winning seven of the 42 seats. Following the elections Halidi was appointed prime minister.^[4]

In the early parliamentary elections in 1993 the UDD reached to elect 2 deputies, one of whom was Ibrahim Halidi. UDD refused to form an alliance with the newly established^[5] Rally for Democracy and Renewal (RDR) created by Djohar.^[6]^[7].
