If we're talking about appropriate External links to include, we should look at Wikipedia's guidelines on external links sections. From these guidelines, we know that External links should be kept to a minimum. Thus, just because a site is popular, doesn't mean it should necessarily be included. Sure, I would be interested in participating. I think the most important thing is to define the scope of this project. Do we want a project for the University of Houston or the University of Houston System. If we decide on just University of Houston, then the project should clearly define that and guidelines should be set to state that other articles related to UH–Clear Lake, UH–Downtown, or UH–Victoria are not part of the scope. I prefer a project just for the University of Houston, but also see that this will be problematic as other editors will argue that three other UH System institutions should be part of the project as well since they bear "University of Houston" in their name.

I guess before moving forward, we need to decide what to call the project in accordance with the scope:

WikiProject University of Houston or WikiProject University of Houston System.

I think you should post on the talk pages of Houston and Texas so other editors will be aware of this proposed project.

I read your userpage and noticed that you went to Clements HS! I went and graduated from there as well.

I'd prefer a University of Houston only project also, but I certainly see your point! However, I'd honestly think it'd be a better idea to deal with those cases of editors trying to include the rest of the UH System in the scope on an individual basis. My reasoning for this stems from the fact that I don't believe we'll get a lot of these editors often because the other UH System school articles are seldom edited. So, with your willingness to join a UH project, I will get started on creating one. However, I will heed your advice and post on the talk pages for UH, Houston, and Texas. This will allow for more exposure of this project to those who would be interested but otherwise wouldn't know.

Clements was surely a great high school to graduate from. I'm proud to have my diploma from there.

Sounds great! My only concern is that someone will start tagging all UH System articles with the WikiProject University of Houston template. I wouldn't want to get into an edit war over this by removing them and having to explain that other three UH System institutions are not branch/extension campuses of UH.

I guess somewhere on the project page, we'll have to include a little tidbit about the scope for the project. That way, we can always refer back to something that existed before the editor started making changes. It's part of good WikiProject etiquette after all to have a well-defined scope.

Someone running across a Wikipedia article doesn't know things like that. Putting things up that are contentious based on personal experience constitutes as original research. If these alumni are in fact from UTSA, it should be simple to find that written in an independent source somewhere. Luckily, another user has done this for you, and it has made the article much more credible now. By the way, I'm a UTSA alum too, so I'm not just picking on UTSA. The highest rating I can offer without a formal review process is a B-class assessment, but I'd strongly suggest adding more in-line citations and submitting this for GA review. It's very good in the prose department, as best as I can tell from a quick look. If you can add those in-line citations, there's absolutely no reason this article couldn't reach good status. With older items, off-line sources are usually your best bet. If there's a book or two detailing the history of the Cougars, that'd be the best way to go. Just throw the bibliographic citation at the bottom, then use a "Miller, p. 37"-type cite in-line. I've also found that academic databases have been a big help as well, particularly ones like NewsBank; those generally cover from the mid-1980s to the present day, though I'd suggest using clickable online cites for more current items. Brian, you may want to consider redirecting 2008-09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team to 2008–09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team. For example, if you take a look at Template:NBA seasons or "Category:National Basketball Association season by team templates," you will see that each NBA season (and individual team seasons) all now use the long dash opposed to a short dash. I realize that most of the college teams are using the short dash for 2008-09, but there are also a handful using the long dash (e.g. 2008–09 IUPUI Jaguars men's basketball team, 2008–09 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team, etc.).

Hey the other day you told be about using the logos from the appstore for iphone games. How do you get into sections of the store, im thinking that i need to install itunes but i aint going to do that. Am i doing something wrong here??? There is no hard and fast way to get the image. It is possible to retrieve a 512x512px '.png' icon from a game '.ipa' file by renaming it a '.zip' file, and then unzipping it. However, the icon that is retrieved this way does not have the rounded corners, nor the gloss given to icons on the App Store. The reason why is that this is all done on the fly by both the iPhone OS and the App Store/iTunes.

It is possible to manually add these effects to the icon, but just doing the smoothing on the corners is easiest. Basically, what I've done is, in iTunes snap a screenshot of the icon, by clicking the album art in the left side bar, and bringing up a larger view. Right-click the large image, and make sure it says "Actual Size" before taking the screenshot. Next, I import this image with a photo editor like Photoshop into a blank document with a transparent background, and crop the image to just the icon. I then use the smooth selection tool to get the make the rounded corners. You need a radius of 89px.

If you can find a game icon with transparent background out there on the web to use, it would be even easier. However, this is rare to find.

It was once possible to browse the App Store from third-party websites that had set up the ability to see that content, but I don't know if they're around anymore, and what their names are. Why so adamant about not installing iTunes? It doesn't contain any spyware or add-ons, nor does it interfere with Windows Media Player or whatever media player you use. Apple's software, in my opinion is some of the cleanest out there for Windows.

Check the source for the sentence previously before it. The article from the Chronicle claims that "the hot dog hit the big time here [in Houston] in 1923, when brothers James and Tom Papadakis opened James Coney Island on downtown's Rusk Street." Sorry, but other articles aren't a definitive standard for how to format an article. It's the agreed upon documentation that is available which dictates that. If Wikipedia were to go by the former standard, then most articles would follow a terrible format as most of Wikipedia is stubs, etc. Basically, I don't follow your logic. As someone who has been here a little while, I recommend that one of the first things you do with your article is cite reliable sources to establish notability. There is no hype involved in this entry and Wikipedia is not being used for self promotion. I was Reading you comments on the rolback history of WinMo6.5, while i agree with your rollback to the 6.1 home screen i wanted to clear some things up. Winmo 6.5 has reached the RTM phase, however there are two phases labeled as RTM in the windows world. Release To Manufacturers and release to Market. Right Now as it stands WinMo is only in the release to manufactures stage, it is expected to be released in September. I suggest you go to law school before you start to dispense copyright legal advice. Since I don't know what the source material you believe is copyrighted, I can't determine whether the source was copyrighted. Next, you must determine who is the copyright holder and the relationship with the person posting to wikipedia. Assuming the source is copyrighted and its author is not posting to wikipedia, you must next perform an analysis to determine whether the use is a "fair use" allowed by the copyright laws. Since you claim that two different literary expressions are both copyrighted, I suspect that you are mistakenly assuming that copyright protects underlying facts — instead of just the literary expression of those facts or ideas. What makes you think I claim ownership of the articles I contribute to? I'd do the same regarding copyright violations on any article I see on Wikipedia. Honestly, if I really felt like I should be the sole controller of content for an article, I wouldn't be writing it on Wikipedia. I have a bit more common sense than that. Again, I would take the same action regardless of who wrote the content here. I've even done so in the past. Copyright violations certainly deserve to be repeatedly removed. Removing that which is disallowed on Wikipedia is not typically seen as uncivil behavior no matter how many times it is done. Adding such disallowed material back without explanation usually is. So, I'm still not following the logic you're using to claim that I'm being overprotective of the article. Also, Wikis are generally not reliable sources as per WP:SPS. If by comparable, you mean there is an encyclopedic reasoning behind comparing the two web browsers, then maybe. However, I don't believe this conversation is altogether appropriate on Wikipedia in the Internet Explorer Mobile or Safari articles, as it is off -topic. That is, there is nothing that makes the two worthwhile to be arbitrarily compared when there are many mobile web browsers out there. I believe it would be much more appropriate to include comparisons in an article such as Comparison of web browsers instead. Reviewer opinions are unnecessary at that point. I agree that it may be worthy to compare, but think about what it turns into. Making a generalized statement comparing IE Mobile to the majority of its competition (Webkit-based or not) takes some POV because it obscures objective facts. This is what reviewers do, but it's not what encyclopedia editors do. It doesn't tell the whole story, and if it did, it would end up being disproportional to the article's main topic. Hence the necessity for a separate article. I think if the information is relevant, but not altogether appropriate, it should be placed in a "See also" section. I do not care if the image is deleted even though it qualifies for fair use. I just wanted UH related articles to look good, and I know you would want the same. Moving forward, I would hope that you engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor first if/when you have concerns about the subject in question prior to taking actions on your own by accusing of "copyright violation" or marking it for "speedy deletion."

I have dismissed many of your past actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston and UHS related articles, but I will no longer tolerate that going forward. You have reverted a lot of my edits and others edits just because you disagree or do not like it for whatever reason. When you revert my edits, you make them look like they were malicious/vandalism by having the following in edit summaries: "Undid revision XXXXXXX by RJN..." In the future, please engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor when the edits are clearly not vandalism instead of leaving your comments in the edit summary. In addition, please refrain from making condescending and superiority comments/remarks in edit summaries when reverting non-vandalism edits. The dialogue or discussion of disagreements can be at the subject in question's talk page or the editor's talk page, instead of comments/remarks in the edit summary.

You have made significant contributions to UH and UHS related articles, and those contributions are much appreciated. However, this does not mean you own these pages and act condescending toward other editors. I apologize if I gave the impression of being discourteous. I meant to actually give you some notification, but it slipped my mind. However, the image is not in public domain, and while I understand your argument of fair use, I don't think it's possible for us to use photographs of living persons under fair use with the current terms of Wikipedia's copyright policy because a free equivalent is possible, albeit difficult to obtain. I checked with the university's public relations department to clear this up, and can provide evidence of such from them if it's helpful. I would like to note that I definitely value your work here on Wikipedia, as you are one of the only other major contributors to University of Houston-related articles.

I also do not intend for my reversions of your content to be considered attempts at reverting vandalism, as I know you are not a vandal. I am simply following my interpretation of Wikipedia's workflow in that performing an undo is a standard practice regardless of intent by the author. This is my purpose for adding comments besides the default ones with each edit summary. I don't mean to imply ownership of these articles. I do understand that they are just as much yours and mine, as anyone else's.

I just uncovered a long-standing misinterpretation regarding the history of the UH System. UHCLC was established by the Texas Legislature in 1971 as a "separate and distinct"[1] degree-granting institution since its creation.[2] So when the UH System was established in 1977, it had two freestanding universities: UH and UHCLC. Only Downtown College and Victoria Center were branch campuses of UH. I have made appropriate changes at respective articles and removed the UH System timeline image that I had uploaded. If you're accusing me of some sort of connection to Tapulous, you're flat-out wrong. I have never had any connection with this organization, and only wish to serve the mission of Wikipedia. I do not wish to paint Tapulous in either a positive nor negative light, because that would be antithetical to the concept of Wikipedia. I should also point out that you have no authority to prohibit my editing of the article, and I will not forgo my privileges in the least. It would be advantageous for you to understand that regardless of what content you want Wikipedia to have, it is solely an encyclopedia, and all of its content must be encyclopedic. It is not an employment guide to help prospective employees determine where they choose to work. If Decrem also gave an interview where he noted that McDonald's was his favorite fast food restaurant, would this be relevant? Of course not! Simply because Decrem has said something does not make it encyclopedic. If you are claiming that this information is in fact encyclopedic, then you are attempting to portray a false controversy based on your point of view about the subject. Simply claiming that something can "be perceived as controversial", is your point of view, and does not merit its inclusion. You cannot paint a picture that there is a controversy about Decrem's comments unless there is a documented phenomenon of such. By "documented" I mean, reliable sources must exist that specifically note the controversy caused by Decrem's comments. You must provide these sources with your contribution. If you claim that this information still belongs despite a lack of controversy, then it is still inappropriate to include, as Wikipedia is not your soapbox for political viewpoints. A bill was filed (HB2556) in the Texas Legislature to transfer the University of Houston–Victoria into the Texas A&M University System. HB2556 also calls for renaming the institution to Texas A&M University–Victoria. If passed, the effective date of transfer would be September 1, 2011. HB2556.

Hello there! I understand where you're getting at and certainly appreciate it, but it's my understanding that this policy does not apply to the Wikipedia project, and is simply for internal use of the university. In fact most universities have the same policy with their academic seal. I do disagree with the use of this coat of arms for several additional reasons: I have never seen this coat of arms by itself in use anywhere by the university, thus I don't feel that it represents the image (at least not to the extent of its use in infoboxes) of the university. Without its accompaniment as part of the academic seal, it appears to be an unofficial image. For an encyclopedia, this would be antithetical to the spirit of the project. Moreover, the documentation of the University infobox specifically notes that the image should "preferably [be] the university's official seal or logo." Since the official seal exists and is uploaded, I feel that it more closely fits with the official documentation for the infobox. Lastly, since a large part of the project is an effort to standardize our related articles, and other university articles (especially the featured ones) use the academic seals, I think it would be best to follow that example. I have seen the coat of arms used by itself in UH, UHCL, and UHD publications—mostly in older publications of the 70s and 80s. You can see the coat of arms used by itself on the UHS homepage at www.uhsa.uh.edu. You have to look very carefully within the middle of the gray box. I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.

If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?

The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):

• Creation, maintenance, and improvement of articles and lists directly related to C-SPAN and its programming.
• Use of C-SPAN programming in citations for various topics
• Inclusion of unique and targeted C-SPAN video links for various articles. (Doing this with respect for established guidelines at Wikipedia:External links.) (Example: If you are interested in the submarine USS Wyoming (SSBN-742), then having easy access to the eight hours of programming taped while a C-SPAN crew were guests on that submarine could also be of interest to you.)
• Inclusion of (and possible further creation of) templated links such as {{C-SPAN|laurabush}}, that will easily take article readers to a link of all C-SPAN Video Library links for the person about whom the article is about.
• What else?

I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe (as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...

...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.

Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.

Not sure what you mean by "not attempted to address the change", as I have added expanded reasoning in my edit summaries. That type of discussion is typically considered sufficient until it is clear that further discussion is needed. However, to further explain, the section renaming does not change the content of the section, but simply clarifies the content that is already existing. The section consists almost entirely of minor political parties that are affiliated with the Christian Right. Are we in agreement on this? If this were meant to be an all-inclusive section, then what is the reasoning for not including the Republican Party of the United States? In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. Hello! I took a look, and it looks like you've got a great start, but I actually don't think it's ready to be moved to the main namespace yet. The primary reason that it should not be moved yet is because it doesn't demonstrate Wikipedia's concept of Notability. I understand that RESF is notable because of what they do, but that is a different standard than what Wikipedia requires. There is something called the "General Notability Guideline" that we must abide by. The guideline basically states that an article's subject has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. As of right now, Rocky Linux has had significant coverage, but I'm not so sure about RESF in particular. If you can find the sources detailed in the GNG (even just a few), then it should be fine to move into the main namespace, and I can certainly do that for you. Hi Brian. My name is Stuart. I work for Lenovo and therefore have a disclosed conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page. The current IdeaPad page is mostly made up of data about each product release, but it's outdated, has many tags, and is poorly formatted. On the Talk page I proposed a product table (see here) similar the one at ThinkPad#Current_model_lines that would help clean-up/consolidate the page.

I disclosed a conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page and proposed a product table as a possible replacement for 30+ separate sections on individual products/lines that are filled with tags, out-dated, incomplete, and contain excessive detail for an encyclopedia. You added the proposed product table, but didn't delete any of the content the table was intended to replace. I wasn't clear if you disagreed with proposal to replace the current content (not add to it), or if you just hadn't gotten to it. Let me know what you think is best and any way I can help. My name is Zac and I work for a company called Pure Storage. I disclosed a COI and requested some changes here including correcting that the Purity operating system is used in most, but not all, of the company's products, and correcting/updating the list of major product families.

You'll see there that there's been some back and forth already. @Mckaysalisbury: asked me to make it easier by proposing a draft (linked here), rather than requesting specific edits. @North8000: said he wanted to preserve the summaries of each product family (I had actually thought too much product information might be why the tag at the top).

In any case, I've addressed all the feedback provided and not sure where to go from here in terms of getting the corrections actually implemented. Do you have time to chip in?
