@JaGa: This edit. It is true that What links there shows a bunch of incoming links. But these are all false positives. They refer to {{Shopping malls in India}}, which had an ambiguous link until this edit removed it, more than a week ago.

WP:DisamAssist is not tripped up by this situation, it ignores the false positives. Paradoctor (talk) 09:16, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

This is not correct. In that edit, I did not add any link at all. I can see that the problem exists. But I did not cause it. I don't think it is reasonable to spam every editor of every article where there is a pre-existing problem, with a notification like this. The bot needs to be modified. Not a big issue, but I received a notification about adding a dablink to Courage (2021 film). The dablink was added by another editor whose edit also added copyrighted material ([2]). As such, their revision was deleted to remove the copyvio, but the dablink remained. As the editor who made the next not-revision-deleted edit ([3]), it seems DPL bot assigned that dablink creation to me instead. Bennv123 (talk) 06:35, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

@JaGa: I understand that this bot isn't the same as the toolforge account "dplbot", but I'm sure you know where to pass this query on to. Does the notice at WP:VPT#Toolforge Grid Engine shutdown mean the end of useful reports such as https://tools.wmflabs.org/dplbot/disambig_links.php and, if so, what can we do to prevent that? I see it has jobs running today, according to https://grid-deprecation.toolforge.org/ Certes (talk) 16:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

  @R'n'B: You probably have a better way of doing this, but one approach is something like User:Certes/Reports/Disambiguation pages with links. It has the advantage(?) that anyone can re-run it by clicking the link. Certes (talk) 20:22, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

  That page is pretty cool (although it's extremely long; have you considered splitting into subpages?). Have you compared your results to the bot's? --R'n'B (call me Russ) 15:39, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

  Results look pretty similar to the bot's, though not identical because I don't know the bot's schedule and have limited control over when the new page runs. Splitting into subpages could be inefficient and inaccurate: the obvious way to do it is for each subpage to do all the work then discard most of it, and there's a risk of data changing between runs causing some results to be duplicated or omitted. We might be able to do something more complex like having the query insert labeled section transclusion tags and have a subpage for each group of 500 lines extract one section each (ugly), or by writing a template/module to show another page with its table limited to a subrange of lines (potentially, more generally useful). Alternatively, have two queries, one full and one limited to dabs with more than one incoming link (661 rows today). Certes (talk) 16:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

  I've created User:Certes/Reports/Disambiguation pages with links/Multiple, which suppresses dabs having only one incoming link. That leaves a list of roughly the top 500 dabs. It's less functional than the real thing but may be enough, and it should be efficient. Certes (talk) 18:40, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

The page Georgia received an automated message about a large number of dablinks even though almost all of them correctly pointed to the dabpage. The proper title for the page is Georgia and not Georgia (disambiguation). I attempted to "fix" the problem by adding (disambiguation) to various redirects before noticing that I created a bunch of double redirects. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 19:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

The bot flagged that page because a user had added an incorrect link to Georgia on Template:Peabody & Stearns, which then got transcluded into roughly 100 articles that use that template. Once the error was detected, another user quite promptly fixed it, so nothing else needs to be done. The bot would have removed the template the next time it runs (tonight), except it seems that someone else has done so manually. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:24, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

I just got a message from this bot, regarding this change I recently made. I got the message because part of my change was adding links for a few previously unlinked things like towns and people. Upon preview, I saw that two of them (Savigny and Domfront) were to disambiguation pages. So, I tried to figure out which Savigny and which Domfront were being referred to, but I was unable to do so. So, before submitting my changes, I added {{Disambiguation needed}} markers for both of them.

That seems to me to be exactly the purpose of the "Disambiguation needed" template. So these hits by the bot seem like false positives to me. Perhaps it should be coded to not operate on disambiguation links that are marked with "disambiguation needed"? -Rwv37 (talk) 22:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

The list of disambiguation pages hasn't updated in 34 hours, and the fix lists for all entries are empty. Cg2916 (talk) 16:06, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

I'm aware. Unfortunately, the scripts that generate these lists depend on the (shared) Toolforge database servers, and every once in a while these servers get overloaded or have some other issue that prevents updates from occurring on schedule.
