Hindu kush

Afganistan

Where exactly (or likely) at the Hindu kush did the Indo-Aryans enter India? Did they follow the Balkh-river upstream, through what is now Bamiyan, Charikar, Jalalabad, Kabul, and then the Khyber pass? With other words, wasn't the Kabul-Kandahar line the most likely western border of the Maurya empire, effectively guarding the entrance to India? Cheetah reintroduction in India

Hi! You have been blindly reverting the edits on Cheetah reintroduction in India after multiple weeks of inactivity on the pretext of WP:ONUS. If you had actually taken time to go through the edits, it would be more clearer of what has actually been changed. What I have done is to move the citations to the body of the article as per WP:LEDE. The points in the lede essentially remains the same apart from minor tense/sentence corrections.

What you have been doing is add all the duplicate citations back to the lede, and add an additional unwanted clutter of images. So, it would be great if you can actually discuss or point out, what exactly your point of contention is, as I do not see any major points of contention here as such from the version you keep on reverting to. Thanks! M2 (talk) 07:59, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

I wrote the lead that had been in place for quite some time. I did read through your changes. Please take to the talk page. Your edit has too many inaccuracies. Like I said, the WP:ONUS is yours.
Please don't talk to me in edit summaries and then engage in edit warring. If you do it again I will post on the user talk pages of administrators. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 13:13, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi

Since you've had extensive editing history on the article is it possible to comment on The Britiah Raj flag Sylvester Millner (talk) 22:41, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

The Raj, i.e. the British Indian Empire, did not have a flag. If it had had one, it would have found mention in the Imperial Gazetteer of India, especially volumes 1 and 4. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 23:07, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
So where should the current flag go?--Sylvester Millner (talk) 00:35, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
What current flag? Fowler&fowler«Talk» 00:36, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Please take this discussion to the article's talk page. Slapping a big flag on a talk page has no value on Wikipedia. Find scholarly sources that support the notion that the British Raj had a flag. Best regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:15, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

Indus sites inconsistency

Harrapan sites located in modern day India have an India portal, I just added Pakistan portal on sites in modern day Pakistan for the sake of uniformity. If you believe it is unnecessary (which I absolutely agree with) you must equally remove the portals from ivc sites in modern india as well otherwise it will be unequal and highly biased. Qaiser-i-Mashriq (talk) 09:42, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Which ones are these? Please let me know. Pakistan, of course, has the major ones, the ones that brought IVC into the world's limelight 100 years ago. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:21, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
I checked Rakhigarhi, Kalibangan, and Dholavira, the major Indian IVC sites. They didn't have portals in See also. They did have overlong lists, one of which I have trimmed. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:22, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
I have reverted one of your reverts. We can't go against WP policy. That is nonnegotiable, Indian sites or no Indian. Please self revert the others. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:24, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

ANI

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. - NitinMlk (talk) 01:24, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

That thread has been closed with an admonition from Cullen*:NitinMlk, are you actually arguing that a concession about a "happy medium" in wording that an editor made in July, 2022 is somehow binding in January, 2025? Surely you are aware that our consensus policy makes it quite clear that consensus can change. I presume that you are also aware that bickering about South Asian castes is highly problematic and administrators have little patience for such disruption. So please be cautious when editing in this topic area.
That concession was born of distaste for continuing on in a discussion that was mired in what Johnuniq, another admin, informed me about later had the hallmarks of WP:Civil POV pushing, though they did not say anything about this particular caste article. It took place before the enforced rest during COVID gave the sociologists, social anthropologists, and historians of India the time to produce a spate of new scholarly works. Himalayas

Hi! I am reaching out to you regarding your revert on Himalayas. While I understand that WP:Tertiary sources are not preferred, it was undue for you to do a wholesale revert of the changes without going into what has happened in detail, simply months after multiple intermediate edits by various editors.

  1. You have restored an old version which still uses the same Britannica as the major source, so what justifies the usage here? Practice what you preach?
  2. In the old text restored by you, large swathes are uncited text such as the entire section on Geography. Unless you have reliable sources backing up, I do not find a valid reason for you to restore them into the article.
  3. Your claim of me doing away with the original sources in the article is unfounded. I have preserved all the properly cited sections with the respective resources. Unless you can quote those "dozen scholarly sources", this is nothing but speculation.
  4. I do agree that certain sections depend heavily on tertiary sources. If you have specific objections to certain sections that were added on, I will be happy to discuss in detail and work on finding relevant secondary sources.

So instead of coming after multiple months and simply undoing a wholesale revert of all the intermediate edits to an already problematic version, it would be in the good if you can discuss first as you had preached. M2 (talk) 06:34, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

@Fowler&fowler, You are consistently reverting edits without explaining any of the points. You seem to be hell bent on keeping the old version. I have extensively added information and added citations as most of the sections does not have proper citations. If it helps, I will start going section by section with the summary. Request you to engage in a conversation rather than doing blind reverts which are not helpful. M2 (talk) 15:39, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
Please read my post on Talk:Himalayas. Your edits are much worse than I had hitherto thought. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:54, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

Thank you very much, Tim, both for the wishes and for doing this. Much as I'd like to, I doubt I'll be able to take part in the discussion. It is a difficult time right now, a somber business. I'll leave a brief note at FAC. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 19:06, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
Also, Tim, I wanted to say that nothing I wrote in MC, some of it a very long time ago, is sacrosanct, unamenable to change. If you or someone else at FAC you feel can improve what I had written (the coherence, cohesion, idiom, style, or what have you), please feel free to change it. We want everything that will make MC a first-rate FA. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:23, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for that, and I'll tinker as needed. All the same, I'd be happier keeping as much of your original material as I can. Best wishes, Tim riley talk 18:25, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

A warning?

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Azuredivay (talk) 14:08, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Best not to keep an eye on the editor's edits at the moment, especially to pages that have a ton of other page-watchers who can dispute their edits if needed, just so that the editor is not left with a misapprehension that the push-back and reverts are personal. I apologize for that. I thought an edit summary pop-up would appear, but it did not. This issue has appeared on this page many times. My work on Wikipedia starting April 24, 2025

I have suffered an acute and unexpected personal loss. My work on Wikipedia for the foreseeable future will be restricted to (i) reverting edits that, in my assessment, are very obviously of undue weight and (ii) content work related to British India before the Indian rebellion of 1857. If I have reverted an edit, please trust that the revert was made in good faith and with the experience of my 18-year stint on Wikipedia. Open a thread on the article's talk page and attempt to establish a consensus for your edit. I won't edit war nor will I have the time or heart for talk page discussions, but perhaps other editors will step in. Please do not express your discontent or ask for clarity on my user talk page. This reminds us all what the really important things are in life, and how little a dust-up at Wikipedia matters in the grand scheme of things. So very, very sorry at this incalculable loss, and wishing you centering and peace. Friends have reached out. In particular, one who I have known for 30 years, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, who had studied trauma (and the still officially undiagnosed PTSD) among returning Vietnam vets at Fort Hood in the mid-1960s and two or three years later—on a two-year fellowship in Bristol—among parents of children killed in the Aberfan disaster, has been calling several times a week. Many of my symptoms, the wish to leave everything unchanged, the disheveled state the bedroom when the ambulance came, the dozens of hospital parking lot receipts collected over the following two weeks and scattered on the passenger seat of car and the floor below; and the haunting by the final scene in the critical care unit three hours after I had left her laughing and joking in her hospital room, he said are not uncommon among those who have experienced trauma. Indeed. I just happened upon this. We haven't interacted in years, Fowler and Fowler, but I offer my condolences as well. Some speak of Wikipedia as distinct from "real life". But this reminds me once again that the Wikipedia community is as real as any other part of life. My heart goes out to you. Regards, Alan W (talk) 01:26, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you @Alan W: for your insight. To overcome grief, I feel, we have to marshal all our resources, and Wikipedia is very much one. I'm finding working on small, disregarded, topics to be strangely therapeutic. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:22, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
We do what we can. As Guettarda said, you are part of a community that cares about you. Regards, Alan W (talk) 01:16, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you, Alan W, for that. A physician friend of mine struck a similar note, which I am quoting in the hopes that it might help others similarly stricken: "I am encouraged that you’re engaging with folks who are well wishers ... Our collective experience tells us that eventually the distress fever will break, no matter where you are in the grief cycle." Fowler&fowler«Talk» 02:43, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

I'm so sorry to hear this Fowler. I was involved in a discussion at the VS Naipaul article, and your absence from that conversation made me wonder how you were doing. I've experienced a lot of profound (and unexpected) losses, but even I can't imagine losing my spouse. Know you're part of a community here that cares about you. Guettarda (talk) 15:29, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

Thank you @Guettarda: for your words of solace. In my youth, I had obsessively read John Bowlby's Attachment and Loss trilogy. In the third volume, he and Colin Murray Parkes' had proposed four stages of grief: numbness, yearning and searching, disorganization and despair, and reorganization. They were probably not strictly linear anyway, but no amount of reading had prepared me for this event. And no theoretical knowledge beats simple words of comfort that ease distress. I am grateful for yours. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:39, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi, @Fowler&fowler I am deeply saddened by your loss. I hope that with time you find strength. Although I haven't interacted with you much, I've seen some discussions you were involved in, and I must say that over the past 18 years, you have been an outstanding member of the Wikipedia community. I can relate to the challenges, as I have only been active for two years and sometimes struggle to continue.

Please give me space. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:20, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

@Joshua Jonathan: My wife was both a flower and animal lover. We have over a dozen animals in two homes. Fowler, we've disagreed on many things, and I’ve accused you and your motives countless times. But today, I feel your pain, and I’m truly sorry this happened. This is not only heartbreaking — I have teary eyes as I write this. May her eternal soul rest in peace, wherever it is. I will also offer my prayers.
May you recover from this, stronger than before. I’ll be looking forward to arguing with you again once you return in full form.

Suggest removing comment

Hi Fowler, hope you are okay under the circumstances. I would suggest reverting your message here. It is quite personal to the IP, and doesn't progress discussion about the title. I would be interested to see what further points to consider emerge in the discussion, such as the order of the Supreme Court that has been raised. Best, CMD (talk) 10:26, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Explain undo

F&f, I undid your edit here because, while I too have a (mild) aversion to the formatting issues you mentioned, it is best not to edit other editors' comments especially if they end up changing the meaning they convey. And equally importantly, the editing would have likely derailed the discussion from one about content, sources and due-weight to one about wiki-talkpage guidelines etc, which would have been a waste of editors' time. Hope you understand. Abecedare (talk) 16:06, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Yes, I made an error and you very correctly undid it. Apologies. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:11, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
PS Excellent rationale presented as well, Abecedare. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:12, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

On sealions

Thanks for telling me that a suspected sealion had expanded his/her attacks on you to another talk page. I was hoping to close down their activities on that page.

The way such editors win is by baiting the rest of us into doing things that make us look bad. Be careful. In either 2023 or 2024 another bad editor baited a hitherto good editor into making a racist comment - that got the previously-good editor an indefinite block. The bad editor does not mind blocks and bans.-- Toddy1 (talk) 13:26, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Look at his/her other edits.-- Toddy1 (talk) 14:29, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Precious
Eight years!

Here I came to just deliver the annual reminder and came to know you more and more by details unfolding about the loss of part of your life. Looking at the green eyes of that cat. You will have to take care of the flowers and animals she loved, much more important than Wikipedia. I saw the May flowers with a friend last year who died in November. They just begin to bloom again. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:31, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Thank you, Gerda, for reading the announcement above (and on my user page) and for such an empathic and evocative reply. My wife was not on Wikipedia, but an avid Facebook user. Maintaining her Facebook page has helped. Her dozens, if not hundreds, of friends have responded. My wife was funny and an instant hit in unstructured situations, able to carry on two or three conversations simultaneously. I now have to do some of that by imagining what she would have done, digging deep in my memory. Strangely, I have become more social. The animals, of course, were partly my responsibility even earlier. The animals are ageing—the oldest cats are 18, and the dogs, 15—so the rituals around their care keep me busy. I've now returned to Wikipedia, but hopefully, more focusedly, working on the topics I originally intended to work on. Like everyone else's, my time on Planet Earth has a "use by" date. Thank you again for such a beautiful message. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 11:25, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
PS I forgot to add, the yellow roses look beautiful. The leaves, too, are glistening. Thank you. I'm deeply sorry to hear about your friend's loss, Gerda.Fowler&fowler«Talk» 22:01, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for all your thoughts! - I don't know if the premiere OTD of Verdi's Requiem is good for you, - ignore if not, otherwise see my talk - we sang it in 2010, and the (Jewish) friend who died took the pic, - he and his wife came to almost all our concerts --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:56, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, Gerda. Although I cut my musical teeth on the blues harmonica, took lessons from a player, and spent the requisite time in clubs during my youth, I do like classical music and listen to it now and then. Will take a look at your talk page. Thanks! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:44, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
PS A double thanks to you Gerda, for posting above, because it made me realize that the section on Blues Harmonica Players was very old, and it needed to be seriously updated. I've added a little, but will look to writing a separate page, perhaps, and also Wikipedia pages on some players. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 20:01, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
Good plans! - Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, born 100 years ago, described by Alan Blyth - a voice for all feelings. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:07, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
He has a very supple voice, Gerda. I didn't realize what a a veritable cornucopia you have there, one performance and perhaps more for each day of the year.
I noticed the Bolshoi. I saw them twice in Moscow, once on a beautiful summer evening in 1993 and a second time in the winter of 1994, when the snow was piled up high. I will view the video later.

FA-assessment

Hi F&f. I've added a few points to the FA-discussion which I deem important. I'm afraid that maybe you may dislike the fact that I bring them up again, and I'm really sorry that this coincides with this tragic period in your life, so I would like to assure you that this stands separate from the appreciation I have for you and your contributions. I just still think that these points need to be addressed, but won't participate in further discussion on them; I've already spend to much time on it in 2020 and 2021. All the best, Joshua Jonathan - Let's talk! 07:12, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi Joshua Jonathan. Thanks for such a considerate and sensitive post. I have replied to you on the article's talk page and made some changes, which in one instance hearkens to a change you yourself had made, if memory serves me correctly. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 11:02, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
