In the News! The NASA Space Launch System test-fire of the core stage on 16 January triggered a shutdown due to an hydraulic system issue. The test which was intended to last eight minutes, lasted just over one minute. Space X sets a new world record for the number of satellites launched. 143 small satellites were launched on a Falcon 9 on 24 January.
Article of the month. Pete Conrad Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. (June 2, 1930 – July 8, 1999) was an American NASA astronaut, aeronautical engineer, naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and commanded the Apollo 12 space mission, on which he became the third person to walk on the Moon. Conrad was selected in NASA's second astronaut class in 1962.	Image of the month. This is an image of Dr. von Braun standing infront of the five F-1 engines of the Saturn V Dynamic Test Vehicle on display at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The engines measured 19-feet tall by 12.5-feet at the nozzle exit and burned 15 tons of liquid oxygen and kerosene each second to produce 7,500,000 pounds of thrust.

Arbitration

• The standard discretionary sanctions authorized for American Politics were amended by motion to cover post-1992 politics of United States and closely related people, replacing the 1932 cutoff.

Miscellaneous

• Voting in the 2021 Steward elections will begin on 05 February 2021, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 26 February 2021, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
• Wikipedia has now been around for 20 years, and recently saw its billionth edit!

But the point about the NRA president FLC was a bit off. IHA forgot to log out and immediately reclaimed that comment under their account ([8]). It was like how I said They only contributed a bit after excessive prodding on my part because I have it up for FLC.

On a related note about the SPI archives, Guerillero said in the CU/clerk/patrolling admin section that he thinks Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/6YearsTillRetirement should be merged with that case. If you are clerking there, merging them might be handy for future investigators, though doing that may require some deliberation as with the review you just did. --Pudeo (talk) 14:13, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi ExclusiveEditor! I've looked at the filter and can see why it blocked you (unfortunately, the specific part that your userpage matched is one that I can't remove). ExclusiveEditor, thanks for the message. You're right that this is a promotional username, but this editor hasn't edited since 2015, so I don't see any need to block them at this time. We usually do not block editors who haven't edited in more than two weeks. In the future, if you see an editor who has edited recently and has an obviously promotional username, you can report it at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Hello GeneralNotability. We have added you to the list of clerks and you will be soon subscribed to the mailing list (info: WP:AC/C#clerks-l). Welcome! I and the other clerks look forward to working with you. To adjust your subscription options for the mailing list, see the link at mail:clerks-l. The mailing list works in the usual way, and the address to which new mailing list threads can be sent is clerks-llists.wikimedia.org. Useful reading for new clerks is the procedures page, WP:AC/C/P, but you will learn all the basic components of clerking on-the-job.

New clerks begin as a trainee, are listed as such at WP:AC/C#Personnel, and will remain so until they have learned all the aspects of the job. Although being a trainee is similar in name to the SPI clerk trainee role, you don't have an appointed trainer / go to mentor. Generally questions are asked in the clerks mailing list, on the private IRC channel or sometimes onwiki. When you've finished training, which usually takes a couple of/a few months, then the full clerks propose to the Committee that you be made a full clerk. As a clerk, you'll need to check your e-mail regularly, as the mailing list is where the clerks co-ordinate (on-wiki co-ordination page also exists but is not used nearly as much). It is also where arbitrators will post messages directed for the clerks and where messages for the clerks by other editors are sent if they are communicated offwiki. If you've any questions at any point of your traineeship, simply post to the mailing list. If you would like to join the IRC channel, which is where communication also occurs, I suggest contacting L235 for further information. I understand that you already have IRC + a cloak, so L235 should be able to add you with ease.

Lastly, it might be useful if you enter your timezone into WP:AC/C#Personnel (in the same format as the other members have), so that we can estimate when we will have clerks available each day; this is, of course, at your discretion.
