Welcome to RL0919's talk page.
I will generally respond here to comments that are posted here, rather than replying via your talk page (or the article's talk page, if you are writing to me here about an article), so you may want to watch this page until you are responded to, or let me know where specifically you'd prefer the reply.
A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
Technical news
The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
Thank you today for Night of January 16th, a 2016 article "about the debut play of author Ayn Rand. It was her first big professional success, and the only one of her plays to be a hit. It was also the last hit for Al Woods, one the most successful Broadway producers of the early 20th century."! - Precious! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:36, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators can now nuke pages created by a user or IP address from the last 90 days, up from the initial 30 days. T380846
A 'Recreated' tag will now be added to pages that were created with the same title as a page which was previously deleted and it can be used as a filter in Special:RecentChanges and Special:NewPages. T56145
Thank you today for the article, introduced (in 2017): "The dual character of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is one of the most famous monsters in horror fiction, and this play is one of the earliest and most influential dramatic presentations of the character. The play also has unexpected connections to Dracula and Jack the Ripper."! - My story today is also from the main page, also based on 2017 (DYK) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I finally managed to upload the pics I meant for Easter, see places. - Also finally, I managed a FAC, Easter Oratorio. I wanted that on the main page for Easter Sunday, but no, twice. You are invited to join a discussion about what "On this day" means, day or date. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A request for comment is open to discuss whether AI-generated images (meaning those wholly created by generative AI, not human-created images modified with AI tools) should be banned from use in articles.
A new filter has been added to the Special:Nuke tool, which allows administrators to filter for pages in a range of page sizes (in bytes). This allows, for example, deleting pages only of a certain size or below. T378488
Non-administrators can now check which pages are able to be deleted using the Special:Nuke tool. T376378
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of a group of Wikipedians to better understand their experiences! We are also looking to interview some survey respondents in more detail, and you will be eligible to receive a thank-you gift for the completion of an interview. The outcomes of this research will shape future work designed to improve on-wiki experiences.
We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this survey, which shouldn’t take more than 2-3 minutes. An editor has asked for a deletion review of Kepler-1972. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review.
An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
Hi, I'm Legend of 14. I noticed you haven't edited User:RL0919/Cultural, a userspace draft in a really long time. If you think this draft is ready to become an article, you can move it to mainspace or submit it to Articles for Creation with {{subst:submit}}. If you think it still needs more work to become an article, you can keep working on it yourself in userspace. However, if you don't think this article is ready for mainspace and you don't want to work on it anymore, you can donate it to WikiProject Abandoned Drafts. An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in June 2025, with over 1,600 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Administrator elections will take place this month. Administrator elections are an alternative to RFA that is a gentler process for candidates due to secret voting and multiple people running together. The call for candidates is July 9–15, the discussion phase is July 18–22, and the voting phase is July 23–29. Get ready to submit your candidacy, or (with their consent) to nominate a talented candidate!
I'd very much like to still create a SA table for Zack Scoular; considering all of the late keep !votes were simple "there's sourcing" attestations, I'd very much like to able to speedily renominate this because even that NZ Harald article is an interview with the subject, wouldn't shouldn't be allowed to establish GNG for a BLP. My bad for letting myself get buried in my schedule. ―"Ghost of Dan Gurney"(hihi)17:21, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@GhostOfDanGurney: You're certainly welcome to provide more analysis of the sources – on the article's Talk page is probably the best place. But I would not encourage a quick re-nomination. I don't think it will work out the way you might hope. The notability requirements for sport bios have tightened up over the last few years, but En-wiki is still a relatively welcoming place for them, especially if the subject has more than just a few statbox appearances or "he represented North Elbonia in the 1930 Olympic knitting competition". If your analysis of the sources is compelling to other editors then maybe another swing at it would work – preferably if one of those other editors makes the nom. Otherwise, a quick renomination will probably not produce the desired results and could even end as a speedy keep. RL0919 (talk) 22:19, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I assume this is in reference to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pirate Software, in which case the problem you have is with the opinions of most of the people who participated in the discussion and/or with the Wikipedia guidelines that they were appealing to. Personally, I never heard of that guy before and don't care whether or not there is an article about him. It was the discussion participants who mostly thought the article should be deleted, and I did not see anything to indicate their view was out of sync with our norms. Srich32977 & ISBN hyphens - 2016 talk page posting
Hello RL. Back in 2016 you posted a comment on my usertalkpage regarding ISBNs. Here is the thread : [[1]]. This thread was listed in a request to block me for ISBN-hyphen-changing abuse. (The rationale for the block changed during the discussion from ISBN gnoming to "[no] attempt to address the concerns of other editors." And the block was successful.) So here is my question to you: Were you satisfied with my response on the talk page? E.g., did I properly address your concern? (Warning – the discussions regarding the block and the appeal became convoluted. If you (as an Administrator) can straighten them out I will recommend that you get an upgrade to WP:Bureaucrat.) Thanks again looking at my concerns. – S. Rich (talk) 02:25, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Srich32977: You might not have noticed my recent undoing of a couple of your edits removing ISBN hyphens ([2], [3]), but as those edits suggest, I agree with the continuing objections to these removals. Your responses to complaints about the removals have always struck me as WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT, but it is quite rare for me to take things to ANI; I just undo the edits when I need to and let it go. But persisting with these edits in the face of multiple complaints was not good, and using scripts to do them at volume was definitely asking for trouble, so I'm not really surprised that someone took it there. As an involved party in the dispute, I have no administrative role in it, so any upgrades will have to wait. But if you are open to advice: make a simple, straightforward commitment to stop removing ISBN hyphens unless asked to do so by others as part of a content review process (FA, GA, etc.). No other caveats or exceptions. I would expect that to get you unblocked promptly. --RL0919 (talk) 07:14, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again RL. Of the various threads on the controversy yours was the best stated. "Let it go". I thought I had an interesting and helpful gnomish project that would keep me busy, but no. And, alas, I see that ISBN-hyphenation-passion has infected several editors besides myself. I thought that getting the ISBN-hyphens all in neat rows was a good idea. But it really doesn't matter because ISBN978-0-525-53858-5 and ISBN978-0525538585 and ISBN9780525538585 all link to the same Book Sources result. I should have been content with that, but I thought that getting a single hyphen style in or on any particular article was good copy editing. So, since stillness has been imposed on me, I will spend more time reading my books instead of just looking at them. Happy editing and administrating! – S. Rich (talk) 13:53, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
