Today morning, I was checking the talk page notification message using Android App. It looks like the "Added", "Removed" etc icons are not visible, hence makes the list unclear. Here is a screenshot. Thanks. --Titodutta (talk) 20:42, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Yup. Have verified that this is still a problem with the Android app specific interface (not the mobile interface). It's strange that the alt text defined doesn't show up instead. It seems to remove all images before showing the content. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions22:22, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
DS -> CT
I would encourage adding the contentious topics procedure (formerly known as discretionary sanctions) to the list! We don't have a summary of the differences between CT and DS yet, so I suppose it could wait till next month when it's fully implemented in January. But maybe it wouldn't hurt to add it to the newsletter so folks know it's coming. Best, KevinL (aka L235·t·c) 10:27, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
So, you decided not to list the 90+ admins who were desysopped on January 1st? You can find the list on WP:BN. Maybe you could include a link to this in the February issue. It is kind of big deal since there haven't been this many admins desysopped since 2011 when the first inactivity guidelines were imposed. LizRead!Talk!01:14, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
@Liz the news covers stuff from the past month. As it was done on January the 1st, this is for next months newsletter. The newsletter should have gone out on the 1st but I wasn't able to press send on the newsletter until now. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions01:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Could an "advertisement" for a willing admin to close WP:RBV22 be included in the next newsletter if we still don't get a close within March? It's nearing 2 months already. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:29, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Probably better to bump the request at [[1]] and hope for some eyes. I think the problem is a lot of people who could close probably have voted already. Galobtter (pingó mió) 00:41, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
That thread is already pretty high up, I can’t just “hope” for some eyes when the thing’s been there and archived once for 20 days (that was only the second thread) Aaron Liu (talk) 11:00, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Potentially misleading/confusing distribution phrasing
This newsletter can give the impression that the recipient is an Administrator due to the fact that it's called Administrators' Newsletter and it starts with "News and updates for administrators". This is very easily abusable, particularly with how challenging new (or even less new) users may find it to confirm whether the recipient is an administrator.
Possible changes are making the name "Administration Newsletter" and changing the opening line to "News and updates regarding administration". I note a similar suggestion in the archived discussion "Target readership versus distributed readership" which seemed to be agreed upon but not implemented. Cjhard (talk) 06:46, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
@Cjhard I don't think there's any issue with non-admins signing up to the newsletter - it's all public information and might be of interest to non-admins. I do think it's helpful to be explicit about the intended audience of the newsletter, though. Calling it the Administrators' Newsletter makes it clear that this newsletter is intended primarily to be useful to administrators, and helps prevent scope creep. Sam Walton (talk) 13:40, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I didn't mean to suggest non-admins shouldn't sign up for the newsletter. I understand the reasons for calling it "Administrator's Newsletter" however I still maintain that the name causes unnecessary confusion about whether someone is an administrator on this website. I agree that it's important to be explicit about the intended audience of the newsletter, I'm suggesting that this can be achieved without causing confusion about whether the recipient is an administrator. I've not found many topics this month. I've been busy with IRL stuff, so I may have missed some things that are relevant. Please add anything relevant, as I think there is not enough items to be able to publish it. Dreamy Jazztalk to me | my contributions12:10, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
It's the next month now, but I've boldly added two items about m:IP Masking. The main point is: This is not an emergency. This is literally months away (maybe even a year or a year and a half). Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:31, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
Deletion of Slowjamistan
Hello, at the request of the "owner" of the micronation Slowjamistan I added his information from the Microwiki page, removing images. Since there are other micronations on Wikipedia I do not see what is wrong with this. I am also personally hurt by the use of the term "vandalism" as I have tried so hard to help the Wiki. Kindly explain the reasoning is removing this entity. Richard Weil (talk) 13:11, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
I am a bit puzzled as to how anyone could conclude that the the talk page of the admin newsletter was the place to go with a content question, but the short answer is that just declaring your back yard a micronation and making up what you imagine to be hilarious details about how it works doesn't not confer the apparopriate level of notability expected in an encyclopedia article. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:01, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
This might be coming a bit too late, since the MassMessage already went out, but I thought I'd leave a note here in case something similar comes up in the future: "self-nominate themselves" is a tautology. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 18:05, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Hello. I just noticed that there appears to be an issue with the most recent newsletter (January 2024), e.g. Special:Diff/1192979289, where the substitution did not take place. I think this means that it will forever show the current month's newsletter in that section on every user's talk page unless it's corrected. Ping @EN-Jungwon? DanCherek (talk) 00:02, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
@DanCherek yes, I did notice that when I sent out the newsletter. I tried to fix it and realised that the newsletter was sent to over 700 pages. Didn't think it would be a problem until you mentioned forever showing the current newsletter. I'll go ahead and substitute them. Thanks for the heads-up on that. -- EN-Jungwon01:52, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
Given that this month's admin newsletter talks about the RfA reforms and trials, could we also add a call for people to reach out to good potential RfA candidates? For instance, adding the following bullet point:
This may be a good time to reach out to potential nominees to ask if they would consider a run.
