I currently have several GANs that would qualify for this competition by its criteria. I put my name on the list of participants today, but all of my GANs were nominated before I listed my name and before the competition opened, so are any of my GANs eligible for this competition? There's a few obscure territories I eventually plan to write about and may have possible qualifying entries for, so I was wondering if any might be eligible for points, given that they're not listed at Wikipedia:Developing Countries WikiContest/2025/Scoring. These include Saba, Sint Eustatius and Saint Barthélemy in the Caribbean, the Cook Islands in the Pacific, Mayotte, Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the Indian Ocean, and Tristan da Cunha in the Atlantic. Hey all. I wanted to ask about what articles about pre-division Korea count towards this project. The division of Korea happened in the 1940s, so limiting articles before this based on whether they happen to be from "North/South Korea" makes little sense. Before division, Korea as a whole was a developing country, with an underdeveloped economy and which was subject to colonial occupation by Japan. I'm bringing this up because I wanted to know whether the article on Kim Chwajin would be eligible for submission as part of the contest. He was born and raised in what is now South Korea, before going on to fight against the Japanese Empire in Manchuria. --Grnrchst (talk) 09:14, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the question, Grnrchst! We actually touched on this last year (don't worry if you forgot, so did I!), and the conclusion the coordinators came to was that the subject either needed to be localized to a modern developing country or needed to have the usual "closely associated with or have a demonstrable significance to" a modern developing country laid out in § General rules. It seems with Kim Chwajin that he was born in what is now South Korea, and the majority of the prose in § Legacy suggests that his cultural significance is primarily in the south. Unless there's prose you've yet to add that would verify a significance to North Korea, I don't think this article is eligible for the contest. Hi! Quick question. I assumed that we had to nominate and pass articles during the contest for them to be scored, but after perusing the scoreboard, I'm now not sure if that's accurate, as there are several articles that seem to have scored despite being nominated before the contest began. Thanks for your question, Spookyaki! A submission's eligibility is determined not by when it was nominated, but by when it passes its review or is promoted. So, to answer your question, yes!
