Mahitgar, whoever moved your draft article from the main sandbox to your user area did you a favor. The main sandbox gets written over frequently. Usually work like this gets done in a user sandbox – which has been done for you. Other people can edit articles in your sandbox, so your invitation here remains open for other editors to participate. I have expressed in the article about the History of South Asia my concern about the lack of a true article with title "History of North India" like exist the article "History of South India", now the section "North India history" in the diagrams about the indian history is holded by the article "History of the Punjab" wich is only a single region of all North India. --Bentaguayre (talk) 20:37, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Umm if exist South India, exist North India the fact that is ill-defined don't mean that don't exist wich imply that have history. The maps on some Indian city pages, like Coimbatore, Chennai, Kolkata, etc. show the state and the city's location within the state. Since this is a global encyclopedia and since the average reader doesnt know where a certain state lies, wouldnt it make more sense to show the city's location with reference to the country like the maps of Nashik, Nagpur. The city pages that you refer to have a inset map that shows the position of the state w.r.t the country. City pages like Nagpur (with the India map) are waiting for state locator maps to be made. My review - the article reads terribly lopsided and almost like an attack piece on the MNS. The tone needs a major overhaul and several of the cherrypicked soundbites ought to go. For example, it will be sufficient to say in the lead or somewhere else in the article that RT's flaying of AB came in for condemnation from some of AB's colleagues in the industry like Shyam Benegal, Lajmi etc., and also from Bal Thackerey. Their quotes should then be wrapped in "ref" tags. Extensive quotes from bystanders with no locus standi like Benegal, Lajmi etc makes it look ugly. Pray, who is Lajmi? Who is Benegal? Are they party to the dispute? Are they political commentators? Are they politicians? Also, while we have extensive quotes from Lajmi and Benegal and Bal Thackerey, similar quotes are missing from the likes of Nana Patekar, sunil shetty etc., who supported MNS. And Jaya Bacchan's views on the issue are of no consequence if said in her capacity as AB's wife.. but hold some value solely because she is a RS MP. And there is no need to reproduce verbatim her inane attempts at sarcasm like "I dont know who Raj Thackerey is" - unless she's lying, she actually proves RT's point that they're far removed from MH and its affairs. In a nutshell, the article has {{tone}}, {{POV}} and WP:UNDUE problems. Sarvagnya 17:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Is this a joke? All those "various shortcomings" were your creations/contributions and none of that is sufficient reason to delete an article. Can someone from the project make sense of Khoor? The article is so confusing that I can't categorize it properly. I'm tempted to just submit it for deletion since the lack of context currently makes the article of no use whatsoever. I'd really appreciate it if someone here can take a few minutes to clean it up. Wikiproject India has grown over the years and has grown into several sub-groups. Now i think the time has come to have some coordinators to look over all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project, and serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues. Already Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Coordinators, Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators snd Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history have one. For a couple years now, I have been engaged in editing First War of Indian Independence relating to what is also termed as the Indian Mutiny. While I have provided multiple sources which state that these series of events are almost universally known in India as the First War of Independence, the British POV-pushers insist that this series of events should be known as a Rebellion or Mutiny which in my opinion runs contrary to the Wikipedia policy where the term used by a majority of English speakers (350 odd million in India) should get precedence. Well, I shall admit that I did lose my cool on the page a few months ago and was restricted from editing editing the article for 3 months. A rule by which I abided considering it was my mistake to lose my head. However, once the restriction was lifted, I went back to editing the article abiding by Wikipedia rules. For no rhyme or reason, a certain British POV-Pusher filed an RfC against me to restrict my usage on all India related pages to 1RR. This failed. So he filed a report with ArbCom and had me restricted to 1RR. Once again, I did abide by that ruling, though in my opinion it was filed with malicious intent. Now, even after abiding my this 1RR, another British POV-pusher filed a report to ArbCom which changed my 1RR limit to a ban on all British Raj related articles. There was no community consensus - as can be gauged from this link - [[2]]

Two Indian editors came out in my support while odd British POV pushers voted to have me banned. Hence there was no clear consensus. Once again, it was the same user who filed the report who actually executed the ban.

While I intend to abide by this ban which I feel was completely unjustified, I request other Indian editors to actually visit Rebellion of 1857 to help instill the NPOV on this page and stop its blatant Britishization. I had pointed out on the talk page that the issue is clearly divided along racial lines and was censured for bringing race into the picture. The British POV pushers have been trying to portray the British Rule in a benign manner. This is just not the case on Rebellion of 1857 page, but a series of other pages.

I request other Indian editors in good stead to come forward and help Rebellion of 1857 adhere to a NPOV. Thanks. DemolitionMan (talk) 08:31, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Folks, I went thru the Agriculture in India article on wikipedia. I was surprised to see no mention of U.P. in the entire article. Just want the editors to know that UP is the largest food producing state in India (the state may also be the largest consumer too!). Please help in resolving disputes and NPOV issues related to British Raj and Company rule in India articles. I added these two articles to Colabration dashboard a few days ago, but did not receive much response. My main problem with these articles is that both appear to display British Raj and East India Company in a positive benign manner and I completely fail to see that logic because it mainly means that people fighting the East India Company in Indian Rebellion of 1857 and freedom struggle were wasting their time. Yes, this is the appropriate page to bring article issues to the attention of a larger audience interested in India-related topics.

The easiest only way to deal with NPOV issues is to bring forth reliable sources that, either

• rebut the current content of the article, or
• add additional details or another POV

Given that the topic of these articles have been widely studied by historians, we should have no problem locating scholarly books and articles written by acknowledged experts and published by reputable publishers. Perhaps you can begin by listing sources that you would like to add, on the respective article talk pages.

Finally note that our aim on wikipedia is not to establish that the British raj was benign or malign; but simply to summarize what the various experts (perhaps with different POVs) have written on the topic. Abecedare (talk) 08:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what to make of user:Desione's post about the "positive benign" POV of some British India history articles. Hi everyone! I have noticed that on all the Indian city pages, the infobox never has the name of the city in the region's language. For example, New Delhi does not have "नई दिल्ली" written in it's infobox; Mumbai does not have "मुंबई" in its infobox, etc. Cities in other countries have put their native language in: China (Beijing, Shanghai), Taiwan (Taipei), Singapore, Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg), Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto), and the list goes on... Now, I understand India has many languages, but couldn't the compromise be to write the name in English and then the regional dialect (i.e. in the New Delhi infobox, put it in English and Hindi; in the Mumbai infobox, put it in English and Marathi). Or even follow the lead of the Singapore page, and place the name in more than two languages, if the need arises. Hopefully this doesn't start a major argument. If it does, let's just cut it, leave it at the status quo, and move onto bigger and better things. Vamooom (talk) 19:20, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

The {{Infobox Indian Jurisdiction}} does have the provision for adding the city name in IAST and native script; and we can add city/state names in the state/UT's official language. However like all language related issues, it can be a can of worms and I don't known if there is a project-wide consensus on this either way. Note that the article lede invariably contains the name in native script, so the readers are not being deprived of the information - it is only a matter of display prominence.Abecedare (talk) 21:42, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

We have a couple of maps for regions in India, e.g. but several more are required. There are some problems with them:
1. Regions are not strictly defined like states, i.e. there are some districts on the border which are 'transition districts' to other regions. Therefore, maps like these are required: .
2. There should be local focus on the maps with district boundaries clear, rather than country-focus with no district boundaries visible.

3. The template

should be expanded for all of India, with each region at least having a map. Maquahuitl^talk! 08:59, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

For maps like Marwari map, you can use the base map Image:India map blank.svg. This map drills down to district level. It is with exact details you might really want to see. You can paint in colors the district you want to highlight for a particular region. I have made Image:India Vidarbha locator map.svg to highlight Vidarbha similarly. Hi all, pl. see this page on SUL. Of late, I've been more off Wikipedia than on it; so, I do not know how the community reacts to SUL. I personally feel that SUL is indeed a good system in non-controversial cases where there is no conflict of 2 users having the same username on different Wikimedia projects. It establishes one's identity clearly and completely even for projects on which we may not have been working and thus the uniqueness of our usernames is protected. I also believe that it is important that people who have gone for SUL signal that their username is unique on all Wikimedia projects - I created {{User_unified_login}} to signal that. Can someone please clarify this: if a photograph was taken in India before 1884, and the photograph was unpublished, what is the copyright status of it? Would it be in the public domain per Indian Copyright Law (which gives a 60 year copyright to "published" photos)?

This question arises because several Indian editors are questioning the Public domain status of the photo of Keshub Chunder Sen ... see the discussion in Talk:Brahmo Samaj, and also in [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AVillage_pump_%28policy%29&diff=201339054&oldid=201337478#International_USA.2FGBR.2FIN.2FBD_.22Copyright_of_image.22_question Village pump(policy). Their argument is that the photograph may have been taken in a studio, and the subject was given only a few copies, and that is not publication. And hence a photo at least 124 year old (don't know exact date, but subject died in 1884) may still be under copyright!!!

While the claim above is ridiculous, I'm not an expert in Indian copyright law, so can someone from WP:India please look into this and comment in either of the threads linked above? In particular, if 60 year or more old photos are not in PD in India as per {{PD-India}}, then we'd have to scrap many photos of Gandhiji and others which are under this claim. --Ragib (talk) 17:59, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

AFAIK, you don't need to worry about Indian copyright law in this instance, since as per US copyright law any "Unpublished anonymous and pseudonymous work" more than 120 years old (i.e., created before 1888) are public domain. I'm not an expert according to the corect use of titles, styles and honorifics of Indian royalty and nobility, but my feeling says that in many Wikipedia pages about Indian royal and noble persons the Wikipedia:Naming conventions are not followed. Take for example Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, his name is more than two lines! Also I noticed the honorific prefix "His Highness" in the first line, which is against the conventions, and the honorific "Sir". He's however a king, so I would say that 'Sir' is then not used then. I have added the following reliable references to Talk:Aratta establishing conclusively that the POV does indeed, really, honest-to-god, actually exist and can be found in scholarly literature that the Sumerian Aratta may be connected with the Sanskrit Aratta. However, the same user has determined that this POV is inadmissible and cannot be seen on wikipedia because his POV is different; thus he has found what he considers fatal flaws with the arguments in each of these experts and apparently will not suffer any of this to be mentioned in the article Aratta at all, even though they are serious references from well known authors including D. D. Kosambi and Malati Shendge. Could someone please take a moment to click on each of the following pages and please verify that the scholarly discussion marked by the highlighted terms does constitute speculation that the two Arattas may be the same?? -- I feel this POV should not be excluded from the article on such facetious grounds as the say-so of one particular editor who seems to fancy himself the sole arbiter of such questions. So are many hundreds of MLAs who serve some stint and be consigned to oblivion. RR, you are strong on policy. In this regard I would expect more from you than noncommittal reporting. Please tell us what do you think of that policy that Soman would fain have for Indian MLAs. Even in large volume of the history of an LA, most of them would not deserve more than a passing mention/nothing at all. I think notability depends on a situation and context. If you think in the national context, why a MLA, even most of the state ministers would not be notable, but at a local level all MLAs are notable. They are representative of the people of a certain area. Sometimes other politicians could also be notable. In a state, most of the MLAs are back benchers and hence lack notability. If we can think of a census town with a population of around 5,000 as notable, why can't we think of an MLA with 100,000 voters behind him as notable? Can someone tell me something about Cuisine of Uttar Pradesh? In the navigation box it is funnily even mentioned as 'Uttar Pradeshi'. Bhojpuri cuisine is already there. And Awadhi cuisine throws up a decent number of web results, but there is no page about Awadhi cuisine. My suggestion is to get this page deleted and a new one on Awadhi cuisine started. In fact, what is mentioned as Uttar Pradeshi cuisine, especially the thali, is by and large Awadhi cuisine only, except that the naan is a Mughal influence. My suggestion is that the Mughlai and Awadhi, plus the Bhojpuri, would sum up to Uttar Pradeshi by and large. An issue about Bhojpuri vs Bihari would also pop up, but I am less concerned about that. Of course it is. Unfortunately in UP the cuisine is not monolithic(just like anything else). But then UP cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and so on form the 'North Indian cuisine'. But this 'North Indian cuisine' does not have a distinct identity. Likewise, UP cuisine does not have a distinct identity, while Awadhi cuisine has one(try doing a google search).
