When using the Book dialog and entering a page ranges in the Page number(s) field using a hyphen, the output is rendered with Unicode characters in the pages field:
title. pp. 1â2. {{cite book}}: C1 control character in |pages= at position 3 (help)
Why does this tool give different output ever few days
Some does it adds a bunch of , some days there is an added space before the ref, some days it deletes the text that follows your cursor, some days it works perfectly. What is with this? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:48, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I noticed it is adding an extra space before the ref. Had to do some cleanup. I now watch for it, but it adds an extra step. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sphilbrick (talk • contribs) 22:57, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Cite button
The "Cite" option often disappears from the window while editing. I can't figure out the issue. Any help will be much appreciated! —Vensatry(Ping me)16:35, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Frankly, I wish the cite button was turned off permanently as it takes too long to load on a slow connection. It is a relatively recent addition to monobooks, which I use precisely because I don't want a lot of the new-fangled stuff. SpinningSpark20:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
It's behaving oddly for me. Sometimes I get just 12 buttons instead of 23; sometimes I get all 23, but in an order different from normal - the "normal" order being .
Right now, editing this window, the 23 buttons are in the following order: the button is extreme left; then come 11 buttons ; then 11 buttons .
But if I go for Show preview, I lose the 11 buttons from to inclusive, and the order is now: through then on extreme right. I suspect that it's a combination of two factors: the recent MediaWiki 1.20 upgrades (see many threads at WP:VPT), and the fact that the two groups I describe actually come from two different sources (the comes from a third), so it's pot luck whether all get retrieved, and the order of retrieval. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:33, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Just back from holiday and have no ref button at all so disappeared in the last week. Is there any workround or fix in sight? Keith D (talk) 19:44, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
I bypassed my cache. This is starting to happen to me, as of this morning. The "Cite" option comes and goes on the toolbar. However, I also have Provelt as a gadget preference - at the bottom of the page, not on the toolbar - and that comes and goes, but not necessarily in conjunction with the Cite option. Sometimes I have either-or, sometimes both are there, sometimes neither are there. And it just flips back and forth as I open Edit screens.Maile66 (talk) 12:29, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
The Cite button has been gone for me too, for the past two weeks or so. I've bypassed the cache, re-logged in, with no success. -- Dandv(talk|contribs)07:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Cite book ISBN retrieval
(copied from WP:VPT as requested)
The cite tool for books has a field where you can plug in the ISBN and retrieve the book info (I assume). Is that working for anyone? My browser just sits there after I click the retrieve button. --NeilNtalk to me16:48, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
I have had a dig around with the script and it calls some tool by User:Diberri and it appears that that tool is returning "Bad data from Diberri tool" rather than some valid data for the ISBN. Keith D (talk) 00:23, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I looked at MediaWiki:RefToolbarLegacy.js which calls http://reftag.appspot.com/getdiberri.py passing in the ISBN using ?isbn=<isbn>&callback=useDiberriData, replacing <isbn> with the actual ISBN from the form. it is this that returns the "Bad data from Diberri tool".
