장크트갈렌 대학교

장크트갈렌 대학교(생갈대학교∙생갈렌대학교, The University of St.Gallen)는 스위스 북동부의 중심도시 장크트갈렌 (생갈∙생갈렌)에 위치한 스위스의 공립 대학교이다. 옛 명칭의 약어인 HSG(Hochschule St.Gallen)로도 잘 알려져있다. 1898년 설립된 비즈니스 아카데미 (business academy)가 전신으로 1899년 첫 강의가 시작되었다. 비즈니스 분야 대학으로는 세계에서 역사가 깊은 대학의 하나이며, 경영 · 금융 · 경제학 · 법학 · 국제사건 분야에서 특히 인정받고있다. 스위스와 독일, 오스트리아 내에 설립된 경영대 중 가장 규모가 크며, 독어권 최고의 명문대학교이자, 유럽 전역에서 가장 뛰어난 명성을 가진 비즈니스 스쿨 가운데 하나이다.

2017년 <파이낸셜 타임스>(Financial Times)는 생갈렌대학교의 전략 및 매니지먼트 석사과정 (Master in Strategy and International Management (SIM)) 보관됨 2017-04-13 - 웨이백 머신 을 7년째^[1] 세계 대학 프로그램 1위^[2]로 선정하였다. 2018년에는 금융 및 재무전공 석사과정 (Master in Banking and Finance (MBF)) 보관됨 2017-04-13 - 웨이백 머신 을 세계 6위^[3]로 선정하였다. 2018년에는 <파이낸셜 타임스(Financial Times)>의 European Business School Ranking에서 4위로 선정되었다^[4]. 2014년 독일의 유력 경제일간지 <한델스블라트 (Handelsblatt)>에서 발표한 독일, 오스트리아, 스위스 등 독일어권(DACH: Deutschland, Austria & Switzerland) 경영대학 연구순위 (Handelsblatt BWL-Ranking 2014) 보관됨 2015-07-22 - 웨이백 머신에서 2012년에 이어 1위로 선정되었다^[5]. 매니지먼트 발전을 위한 유럽 재단(European Foundation for Management Development)에서 공인하는 EQUIS(European Quality Improvement System) 인증을 받았다.

프로그램 중 Accounting and Finance (MAccFin) 석사과정은 The Boston Consulting Group(BCG), Ernst & Young(EY), KPMG AG와 파트너십을 맺고있고^[6], Banking and Finance (MBF) 석사과정은 Commerzbank, Credit Suisse Group, Deutsche Bank, UBS, ZKB와 파트너십을 가지고 있다^[7].

University of St.Gallen은 CEMS (Global Alliance in Management Education, 세계 매니지먼트 교육 연합), APSIA(Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, 국제사건 전문학교 연합), PIM, 및 gbsn의 회원이며, EQUIS와 AACSB인증을 받았다.

대학에는 현대미술 작품을 포함하여 Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, Gerhard Richter, Alexander Calder, Georges Braque, Jean Arp, Pierre Soulages, Antoni Tàpies 와 Max Bill의 작품 등 세계 수준의 컬렉션을 전시하고 있다^[8]. 대부분의 작품은 캠퍼스의 여러 사이트를 위해 특별히 제작되었다.

2017년 가을학기 기준 약 8,550명의 학생 수를 가지고 있으며, Assessment Year 1,696명, 학사 3,014명, 석사 3,097명, 박사 689명, 기타 Supplementary 과정 수강생 16명으로 구성되어있다. 학사, 석사, 박사과정에서 300개가 넘는 강의가 운영되고 있으며, MBA (경영대학원) 과정도 있다. 학교는 스위스 생갈렌 외에도 브라질 상파울로와 싱가폴에 허브를 두고있다. 국제적으로 명성을 얻고 있는 비즈니스 스쿨과 교류를 적극적으로 추진하여 많은 대학들과 협정을 체결했다. 1970년부터 해마다 열리는 'St. Gallen Symposium'을 개최하는 대학으로도 명성을 떨치고 있다.^[9] 장크트갈렌 심포지움은 유럽 최고 지성인들의 모임으로 유명하다^[10].

입학현황

2014년 기준, 20%의 스위스 학생들만이 자국 대학교에 진학할 수 있는 자격을 취득하였다. 생갈렌대학교의 경우 학부과정 합격률이 14.2%로 스위스 소재 대학교 중 가장 낮은 비율 기록했다^[11]. 신입생들은 Assessment Year 과정에 들어가게되며, 시험 성적에 따라 Bachelor's Program의 진학 여부가 결정된다.
