제넷속(Genetta)은 사향고양이과에 속하는 14~17종의 아프리카 포유류 무리이다.^[1]^[2] 제넷은 플리오세 시기의 화석이 모로코에서 발견된 적이 있다. 유럽제넷은 유럽에서 발견되는 유일한 종으로 이베리아반도와 프랑스에서 서식한다.^[3]

하위 종

"제네타"(Genetta)라는 학명은 1817년 조르주 퀴비에(Georges Cuvier)가 처음 기술했다.^[4] 제넷속에 포함되는 종의 수는 아직 논쟁중에 있다. 아래는 2005년 기준으로, 유효한 종으로 제안된 종 목록이다.^[2]
