ചെന്തലയൻ പുള്ളിന്റെ ഇംഗ്ളീഷിലെ പേര് Red-necked Falcon , Red-headed Merlin എന്നൊക്കെയാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ നാമം Falco chicquera എന്നാണ്.
ഇന്ത്യയിൽ എല്ലായിടത്തും കാണുന്ന പക്ഷിയാണ് ഇത്. വളരെ അപൂർവ്വമായി ഇതിനെ കേരളത്തിലും ഇവയെ കാണാറുണ്ട്. 1950 ൽ, പ്രസിദ്ധ പക്ഷിനിരീക്ഷകനായ കെ. കെ. നീലകണ്ഠൻ പാലക്കാട് കാവശ്ശേരിയിൽ, കേരളത്തിൽ ആദ്യമായി ചെന്തലയൻ പുള്ളിനെ കണ്ടെത്തി. 2017 നവംബറിൽ, പക്ഷിനിരീക്ഷകനായ പി. സി. രാജീവനും വനംവകുപ്പ് ജീവനക്കാരനായ കെ. ഇ. ബിജുമോനും കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെമാടായിപ്പാറയിൽ ഈ പക്ഷിയെ കണ്ടതായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തലുണ്ട്.[2] 2020 ജനുവരി മാസത്തിൽ പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെകൂറ്റനാട് വെച്ച് പക്ഷി നിരീക്ഷകനായ ഷിനോ ജേക്കബ് കൂറ്റനാട് ഈ പക്ഷിയെ കാണുകയും ഫോട്ടോ എടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.[3]2023 ജനുവരി 15ന് തൃശൂർ പുള്ള് പാടത്തു നിന്ന് ഈ പക്ഷിയുടെ വേട്ടയാടൽ ചിത്രസഹിതം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്
