ഭാരതത്തിൻറെ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ തീരപ്രദേശത്തെ ബാധിച്ച ഉഷ്ണമേഖലാ കൊടുങ്കാറ്റാണ് വായു (Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Vayu) സൗരാഷ്ട്ര മേഖലയെ ബാധിച്ച ഇത് അറബിക്കടലിൽ രൂപംകൊണ്ട ഏറ്റവും ശക്തിയേറിയ ഒരു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയാണ് ഇതിനെ 'കാറ്റ്' എന്ന അർത്ഥം വരുന്ന വായു എന്ന് നാമകരണം ചെയ്തത് ^[1]. .

ഇന്ത്യൻ കാലാവസ്ഥ നിരീക്ഷണ കേന്ദ്രം 2019 ജൂൺ 9ന് ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.ലക്ഷദ്വീപ്, മാലിദ്വീപ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ബാധിച്ച 'വായു' ഇന്ത്യൻ തീരത്ത് ജൂൺ 9ന് എത്തി. ജൂൺ 11ന് ശക്തിപ്രാപിച്ചു. 150 കിലോമീറ്റർ വരെ വേഗത്തിലുള്ള ഉള്ള ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റായി മാറി.

ജൂൺ 14ന് ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റിന്റെ ദിശ പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് മാറി ഗുജറാത്തിന്റെ തീരദേശ മേഖലയിൽ നിന്ന് അകലാൻ തുടങ്ങി. കനത്ത നാശം പ്രതീക്ഷിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും ജൂൺ 16 ആവുമ്പോഴേക്കും തീർത്തും ശക്തി കുറഞ്ഞ് വായു തീരം വിട്ടു ^[2], ^[3],^[4],^[5],^[6]
