തിരുച്ചിറപ്പള്ളിക്ക് ഏഴു കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരെ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന നഗരക്ഷേത്രം. ഏഴുമതിലുകൾ ചേർന്ന ഈ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം പൂജ നടക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ വലിപ്പത്തിൽ ഒന്നമതാണ്. ഇരുപത്തിഒന്നു ഗോപുരങ്ങളുള്ളതിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലുത് രാജഗോപുരം പതിമൂന്നു നിലകളും എഴുപത്തിരണ്ട് മീറ്റർ ഉയരമുള്ളതുമാണ്. നൂറ്റിഅൻപത്തിആറ് ഏക്കർ വിസ്തീർണ്ണത്തിൽ പരന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയം വൈഷ്ണവാരാധനയുടെ കേന്ദ്രമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അനന്തശയനരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ഭീമാകാരമായ വിഷ്ണുപ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണിവിടെയുള്ളത്.1310-11 കാലത്ത് മാലിക് കാഫിർ പടയോട്ടത്തിൽ വിഗ്രഹം ദെൽഹിയിലേക്ക് കടത്തി.

ശ്രീരംഗം ക്ഷേത്രം

ഭാരതത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വിസ്താരമേറിയ കൂറ്റൻ മഹാക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ശ്രീരംഗം രംഗനാഥസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. തിരുച്ചിറപ്പള്ളിക്ക് അടുത്ത് ശ്രീരംഗം ദ്വീപിൽ കാവേരി നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഇത്. ^[1] കൂറ്റൻ ഇരുപത്തിയൊന്നു ഗോപുരങ്ങൾ കാവൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയം നൂറ്റിഅൻപത്തിആറ് ഏക്കർ വിസ്തീർണ്ണത്തിൽ പരന്നു കിടക്കുന്നു.^[2] ഭാരതവർഷത്തിലെ 108 വൈഷ്ണാവലങ്ങളിലെ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ആരാധനാകേന്ദ്രം കൂടിയാണിത്.^[3] അനന്തശയന രൂപത്തിലുള്ള മഹാവിഷ്ണുപ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ് ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ^[4] ഗണപതിയാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠനടത്തിയത് എന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. തെക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായാണ് ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള അപൂർവ്വം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണിത്. മഹാലക്ഷ്മി ഇവിടെ 'രംഗനായകി' എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപദേവതകളായി ശ്രീരാമൻ, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ, നരസിംഹമൂർത്തി, ധന്വന്തരി തുടങ്ങി മഹാവിഷ്ണുഭഗവാന്റെ അവതാരങ്ങളും, രാമാനുജാചാര്യരും ആഴ്വാരുമടക്കമുള്ള ആചാര്യരുമുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ, 'തുമ്പിക്കൈ ആഴ്വാർ' എന്ന പേരിൽ ഗണപതിയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കുടികൊള്ളുന്നു.
