പ്രസിദ്ധനായ ഒരു പാക്-ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് പണ്ഢിതനും ഗ്രന്ഥകാരനും സാംസ്കാരികവിമർശകനുമാണ് സിയാവുദ്ദീൻ സർദാര്‍. സമകാലിക മുസ്ലിം ബുദ്ധിജീവികളിൽ പ്രമുഖനാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹം. 1951 ഒൿറ്റോബർ 31 ന് പാകിസ്താനിൽ ജനനം.ബ്രിട്ടനിലെ 100 ബുദ്ധിജീവികളിൽ ഒരാളായി അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പ്രോസ്പെക്റ്റ് മാഗസിൻ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്നു.[1]ന്യൂ സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സ്മാൻ പത്രത്തിലെ സ്ഥിരം കോളമെഴുത്തുകാരനാണ്‌.ഫ്യൂചേർസ് എന്ന മാസികയുടെ എഡിറ്ററാണ്‌ അദ്ദേഹം . ശാസ്ത്രം, ഇസ്ലാമികഭാവി, സാംസ്കാരിക ബന്ധങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിൽ ഏറെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളും ലേഖനങ്ങളുമെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ Desperately Seeking Paradise: Journeys of a Sceptical Muslim എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥം 'സ്വർഗം തേടി, നിരാശയോടെ' എന്ന പേരിൽ മലയാളത്തിലേക്ക് വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. അദർ ബുക്സ് കോഴിക്കോട് ആണ് പ്രസാധകർ.[2]

ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് മുസ്ലിം ബുദ്ധിജീവികൾക്കിടയിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധനായ സർദാർ 30 വർഷങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ സ്വന്തമായും സുഹൃത്ത് മെറിൽ ഡേവിസുമായി കൂട്ടു ചേർന്നും 45 ലേറെ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ എഴുതുകയും സമാഹരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.Balti Britain: a Journey Through the British Asian Experience (Granta, 2008), How Do You Know: Reading Ziauddin Sardar on Islam, Science and Cultural Relations (Pluto, 2006), Desperately Seeking Paradise: Journeys of a Sceptical Muslim (Granta, 2006) തുടങ്ങിയവയാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറേതായി ഏറ്റവും അവസാനമായി പ്രസിദ്ധീകൃതമായത്.
നിലവിൽ ലണ്ടനിലെ സിറ്റി യൂനിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിൽ ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്‌മെൻറ് ഓഫ് ആർ‌ട്സ്, പോളിസി ആൻറ് മാനേജ്മെൻറിൽ ഉത്തരകൊളോണിയൽ പഠനവിഭാഗത്തിൽ വിസിറ്റിം‌ഗ് പ്രൊഫസർ, പ്രമുഖ ഭാവിപഠന പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണമായ Futures മാഗസിൻറെ എഡിറ്റർ, UK commision for Equality and Human Rights അംഗം എന്നീ ചുമതലകൾ വഹിക്കുന്നു. കൂടാതെ The Guardian, The Observer, New Statesman തുടങ്ങിയ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മാഗസിനുകളിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി ലേഖനങ്ങൾ എഴുതാറുണ്ട്. 80 കളിൽ ഒരു കൂട്ടം മുസ്ലിം ബുദ്ധിജീവികൾ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച് തുടങ്ങിയ Inquiry മാഗസിൻറെ സ്ഥാപക എഡിറ്റർമാരിലൊരാളായിരുന്നു. കൂടാതെ Nature, New Scientist തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളിൽ ശാസ്ത്രലേഖകനായും സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
