ഒരു ക്രൈസ്തവ പ്രൊട്ടസ്റ്റന്റ് സഭയാണ് സെവന്ത് ഡേ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് സഭ അഥവാ ശബ്ബത്ത് സഭ. ശനിയാഴ്ച (ശബ്ബത്ത്) ആണ് ഈ സഭയുടെ ആരാധനാ ദിനം. ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ വരവിനും സഹസ്രാബ്ദവാഴ്ചയ്ക്കും അതിപ്രാധാന്യം കല്പിക്കുന്ന മതവിശ്വാസമായ അഡ്‌വന്റിസം ആണ് സഭയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനം. അഡ്വന്റ് (advent) എന്നാൽ വരവ് എന്നർഥം. ലോകാവസാനം ആസന്നമായിരിക്കുന്നുവെന്നും തത്സമയം യേശുക്രിസ്തു എല്ലാ തേജസ്സോടുംകൂടി ഭൂമിയിൽ വീണ്ടും പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുമെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന വിശ്വാസം പുലർത്തുന്നവരാണ് അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റുകൾ.
ചരിത്രം
1840-കളിൽ വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കയിൽ സുവിശേഷ പ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തിയിരുന്ന വില്യം മില്ലർ എന്ന മിഷണറിയാണ് അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന് അടിസ്ഥാനമിട്ടത്. മില്ലറിന്റെ പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഉടലെടുത്ത സംഘങ്ങളിൽ മുഖ്യമായ വിഭാഗം സെവൻത് ഡേ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റുകൾ ആണ്. 1844-ലാണ് ഈ സഭ രൂപംകൊണ്ടത്. 1860-ൽ സഭ 'സെവൻത് ഡേ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ്' എന്ന നാമം ഔദ്യോഗികമായി സ്വീകരിച്ചു.
ഇന്ത്യയിൽ
1892-ൽ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് സഭ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിച്ചു.[2]
1914 കാലത്താണ് അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് സഭ കേരളത്തിലെത്തുന്നത്. സുവിശേഷമുത്തു എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥസുവിശേഷകനാണ് തിരുവനന്തപുറം നെയ്യാറ്റിൻകരയിലെ വടകോട്ട് അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് തത്വങ്ങളുടെ വിത്ത് പാകിയത്.[3] തുടർന്ന് അക്കാലത്തെ സഭാ മിഷണറിമാരായിരുന്ന ജി.എസ്.ലൗറി, ഒ.ഒ. മാറ്റിസൺ, എ.എഫ്. ജെസൺ, കോയിൽ പിള്ളെ തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ പ്രഗത്ഭ പ്രയത്നം കൊണ്ട് കേരളത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്കും സഭ വ്യാപിച്ചു. കൊട്ടാരക്കരയിലെ സെവൻത് ഡേ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് ഹയർ സെക്കണ്ടറി സ്കൂൾ ഉൾപ്പടെ മുപ്പതിലധികം വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്ക് കേരളത്തിൽ അഡ്വന്റിസ്റ്റ് സഭ നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്നു.[3]
