ਨਵ-ਖੱਬੇਪੱਖੀ 1960ਵਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ 1970ਵਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਯੁਨਾਈਟਡ ਕਿੰਗਡਮ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਜ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਸੀ, ਫਰਮਾ:ਤੱਥ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ, ਅੰਦੋਲਨਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਗੇ-ਅਧਿਕਾਰ, ਗਰਭਪਾਤ, ਲਿੰਗ ਭੂਮਿਕਾਵਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ।^[2] ਜਦਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੱਬੇਪੱਖੀ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਰਕਸਵਾਦੀ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੁਰਾ, ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਨਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਯੂਨੀਅਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਜਮਾਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਸਨ।^[3]^[4] ਨਵ-ਖੱਬੇਪੱਖੀ, ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰ ਲਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਮਾਤੀ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਲਝਣ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।^[5] ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਹਿਪੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲਣ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਜੰਗ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਕਾਲਜ-ਕੈਂਪਸ, ਰੋਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਸੀ।
