Sorry, If it is felt those pages are necessary,I think they can be retrieved. I was just bothered by too many redirect pages. But I took care to fix the links to those deleted redirect pages. so there won't be any problem of broken links. May I suggest that we list all the nominations for page deletions at விக்கிபீடியா:நீக்க வேண்டிய பக்கங்கள்? If no one objcets then they can be deleted. • Ravi, don't worry about having too many redirect pages, it is not wrong to have lot of such pages (if they are useful). In fact Tamil wikipedia has very few redirect pages compared to other wikipedias of similar size. You can see this in the Statistics overview page. In wikipedia it is encouraged to create more redirect pages. I too think we should, because It increases the chance of finding a page by using search facility in wikipedia.

In Tamil, Thousands of words and phrases are spelled in more than one ways. For eg. கோவில் - கோயில். therefore, some one searching by a name of a temple possibly use any of these spellings, so it is usefull to have a redirect page for every temple.

Further, redirect pages can be used to tackle problems related to regional variations in Tamil usage. In Tamilnadu, when transliterated, the names "George", "Albert" and "New York" are written as, ஜார்ஜ், ஆல்பர்ட் and நியு யார்க். When a Sri Lankan Tamil search for George Washington, Albert Einstein or New York will obviously type, ஜோர்ஜ், அல்பேட் and நியூ யோர்க். Redirect pages come in handy in solving these problems.

it would be interesting to know about the page visits tamil wikipedia is getting.while the statistics page in special pages page seems incomplete, the statistics provided by wikipedia with lots of charts and tables gives details about articles, logged in users etc., only..no clear details about page visits..i guess only the number of non-logged in users can only gauge the popularity of tamil wikipedia.right now, lot of first page results come up for tamil wikipedia for relevant key words (when searched in tamil)..I think since this site is under the wikipedia domain, google gives lot of weight for the pages here.Its good news!--ரவி (பேச்சு) 17:24, 15 ஏப் 2005 (UTC)

A clear archiving policy shall ve discussed. So far I have removed conversations which have no relevance now (ex:general complaints which have been resolved)or small help requests and their answers. I think we cannot archive a whole page like aalamaraththadi at a time as some contents allways need to be present in the main page. Right now the page title syntax for any page in tamil wikipedia is "page name - விக்கிபீடியா". If this could be changes to "page name - தமிழ் விக்கிபீடியா (Tamil wikipedia)", I think it will help in better search indexing for the search engines. The current procedures for starting a new article may baffle a new user.Can this be made simpler by creating a text input box (to input the article topic) followed by the button "create article" which on clicking takes the user directly to the edit page of the new article ? we can put this feature in the help page for creating new articles or some other appropriate place . The tamil interface used here is better than those found in tamil wiktionary, commons (tamil vesrion) etc., Is there anyway, we update those interfaces along the lines of this wikipedia interface. can the update in interface be done through some command, script or will it require tedious page by page manual update? I hope sundar or mayooranathan can comment on this! also, the tamil translate for wikiquote should be wiki மேற்கோள். Right now it is wiki எடுத்துக்காட்டு. Can this be changed. Right now wiktionary is not active. It is comparatively easier to add articles there as we will be adding just basic meanings witthout trying to write complex etymology like english wiktionary. Originally I requested the creation of Tamil versions of most of the wikimedia projects. I think the interface was automatically translated based on the first translation which I did for the wikipedia. In the case of wikipedia, when I became an administrator, I was able to revise many original translations through wikipedia allmessages page, others also may have done it. The same thing can be done if we get adminship in other wikimedia projects. I am not an administrator on other projects. Initially I contributed a little. For a long time I did not do anything there. So,Will you be able to do the feature request at bugzilla and update all the tamil wikimedia prkject interfaces like the one we have in tamil wikipedia? I doubt how many people those who visit this site can read the tamil text..with many people in india using pre- windows XP OS and many who dont know to configure the font settings. I have created a font help header as u can see now in all pages. The instructions are copied from kannada wikipedia page and needs to be verified for Tamil font display. However, I have added a quick guide at the top of the page which I think will be of good help. Just thought of posting some random tips(that I "discovered" :) myself) which might be useful for regular contributors.

1. Please go through all options in your preferences setting. Some options which I found useful is **to set your edits as minor by default and place the pages you edit in watch list

• • Have local time settings. so that you can easily understand the time in recent changes page
  • To have enhanced view settings for recent changes page (very useful!)
  • to start editing by double clicking and right clciking

1. when you copy the interwiki links from english wiki, the english wiki link will not be in it. Remember to include it by typing it manually.
2. If your edit/post in articles/talk page is short, please try to copy the whole post into edit summary so that we can see the post in recent changes page itself without visiting thepage
3. by using the RSS and atopm feed link in the recent changes page, you can view all the actual changes(source text) made in one single page

Recently,user:magnusaustrum has been doing good work in thirukkuRaL article. But I think we need to organise the article a bit. First we need to decide whether to include the xplanations for all the kuRaL's in wikipedia or wikisource (tamil edition). If we decide to have them inwikipedia itself, obviously we cannot have them all in one page as the page would get very lengthy. May be we can have one page per "athikaaram" and link all the athikaarangkaL to the "iyal" page.The individual pages shall be named using the format "athikaaraththin peyar (thirukkuRal)". I too noticed the labourious work by MagnusAstrum. I was consciously watching him do the additions so that we can later simply cut it and paste it in http://ta.wikibooks.org, which currently has nothing. When we do that we can simply retain a summary here. The entire layout should be changed to cover the authorship, period, general theme etc. We can model it along a well-written featured article on some literary work. I too feel that the best place for this article is Wikibooks. Wikipedia should have the facts about Thirukkural only. I think we should let MagnusAstrum to finish it if he is comfortable here, and can cut and past later. We shoud check whether the cutting and pasting would work properly.
