நவுரூஸ் என்பது ஈரானியப் புத்தாண்டு ஆகும். இந்தச் சொல்லுக்கு புது நாள் என்று பொருள்[ 1] [ 2] தென்மேற்கு ஆசியா , நடு ஆசியா , காக்கேசியா , கருங்கடல் , பால்கன் குடா பகுதிகளிலுள்ள ஈரானியரும் பிற மக்களும் கொண்டாடுகின்றனர்.[ 3] [ 4] [ 5] [ 6] [ 7] [ 8] [ 9] [ 10] [ 11] இரானிய நாட்காட்டியின் முதல் மாதத்தின் முதல் நாள் உதயமாவதை இப்புத்தாண்டு உணர்த்துகிறது.[ 12]
இந்த புத்தாண்டு மார்ச்சு இருபத்தொன்றாம் நாளோ அதற்கு முந்தைய நாளிலோ, அடுத்த நாளிலோ தொடங்கும்.
இப்பண்டிகை சரத்துஸ்திர சமயத்தைப் பின்பற்றும் இரானியருடையது என்றாலும், சமயச் சார்பின்றி பலரும் கொண்டாடுகின்றனர்.[ 13]
