穆桑卡瓦龙（属名：Musankwa）是大脚类蜥脚形亚目恐龙已灭绝的一个属，来自津巴布韦晚三叠世（诺利阶）砾状砂岩组（英语：Pebbly Arkose Formation）。属下包括单一物种萨尼亚蒂穆桑卡瓦龙（M. sanyatiensis），所知于部分右腿。穆桑卡瓦龙代表从津巴布韦命名的第四种恐龙。

发现与命名

穆桑卡瓦龙正模标本NHMZ（英语：Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe） 2521由保罗·巴雷特（英语：Paul Barrett (palaeobiologist)）于2018年3月在位于津巴布韦卡里巴水库Spurwing岛海岸的上卡鲁群（英语：Upper Karoo Group）（Spurwing East Palaeosol地）砾状砂岩组（英语：Pebbly Arkose Formation）沉积物中发现。该标本由一个关节连接的部分右腿组成，除无法鉴别的骨骼碎片外，还包括股骨、胫骨及距骨。此地还发现一个腓骨远端碎片，但在描述前就已于收集和清修期间遗失。^[1]

穆桑卡瓦龙化石材料在2020年的上卡鲁群地质及古生物学研究中首次提及，并初步鉴定为属于某种非恐龙的主龙形态类。^[2]正式描述之前，该材料在2023年一篇学术研讨会摘要中简要提及为属于一种类似里奥哈龙的蜥脚形亚目。^[3]

2024年，巴雷特等人据此化石遗骸描述了原始蜥脚形亚目新属新种萨尼亚蒂穆桑卡瓦龙（Musankwa sanyatiensis）。属名Musankwa取自发现正模标本的野外考察期间为古生态学家提供实验室及住所的船屋名。“Musankawa”属汤加语词汇，意为接近结婚年龄的男子。种名sanyatiensis取自流入模式产地附近卡里巴水库的萨尼蒂亚河（英语：Sanyati River）。^[1]

穆桑卡瓦龙是继1969年命名的罗得西亚“合踝龙”、^[4]1972年命名的火山齿龙、^[5]及2022年命名的姆比雷龙^[6]后津巴布韦命名的第四种恐龙。^[1]

描述

从化石更完整的近亲来看，穆桑卡瓦龙貌似是种双足步行生物。如此则可算出正模标本重约386公斤（851磅）。^[1]

分类

巴雷特等人（2024年）在系统发育分析中将本属恢复为蜥脚形亚目大脚类演化支的最原始成员，并发现里奥哈龙科是该属的邻近演化支。结果如以下分支图所示：^[1]
