Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency
The Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) for the Parliament of Singapore. Located in the North-East Region, it was established in 2025 after being split from Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and was first contested at the general election that occurred in the same year. The current Member of Parliament (MP) is Ng Chee Meng from the People's Action Party (PAP). HistoryJalan Kayu SMC was established for the 2025 general election, in order to reduce the number of voters in Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC), which had the most electors out of all GRCs. At establishment, Jalan Kayu SMC had 29,565 registered voters.[1][2] The PAP announced that Ng Chee Meng would contest the newly established SMC. He had previously been a cabinet minister and MP for Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC but was defeated by the Workers' Party (WP) when running for Sengkang GRC in 2020. The WP announced Andre Low as their candidate for the constituency on nomination day. Ng would eventually defeat Low with 51.47% of the votes to 48.53%, a margin of just 809 votes, the narrowest PAP victory in the election.[3][4] As the best-performing defeated opposition candidate, he was offered a seat as a Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP), which he accepted.[5] Constituency profileJalan Kayu SMC consists of most of the half of Sengkang New Town west of Sungei Punggol, the entire planning area of Seletar, and uninhabited parts of the planning areas of Ang Mo Kio and Yishun. It is served by the western half of the West Loop of the Sengkang LRT line. Members of Parliament
