GRIN അതിന്റെ വ്യാപ്തി പ്രാണികൾ‍‍, (അകശേരുകികൾ), മൈക്രോബുകൾ, ജന്തുക്കൾ എന്നിവയുടെ ജെംപ്ലാസം ശേഖരിക്കുന്നതിലേക്കുകൂടി വർദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു.^[2]

ഈ വെബ്സൈറ്റ് 10,000-ൽ അധിക സ്പീഷീസുകളുടെ 500,000-ൽ അധികമുള്ള ശേഖരങ്ങളുടെ ജൈവവർഗ്ഗീകരണ വിവരങ്ങളും പൊതുനാമങ്ങളും തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുന്നു.^[3]^[4]^[5] ഇവയിൽ കാര്ഷികപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളതും വനങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നവയുമുണ്ട്.^[3] മറ്റു ചെടികൾക്ക് ഉപദ്രവമാകുന്നരീതിയിൽ പടർന്നുകയറുന്നവയെയും ഹാനികരമായവയേയും വംശനാശ സാദ്ധ്യതയുള്ളവെയും ഗുരുതരമായ വംശനാശത്തിന്റെ വക്കിലുള്ളവെയും പ്രതേകം വേർതിരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.^[3] കൂടാതെ ലോകമാകെയുള്ള ഇവയുടെ വിതരണത്തിന്റെയും ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെയും വിവരങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.^[3]^[6]^[3]^[2]^[6]^[2]^[7]
