വടക്കേ അമേരിക്ക വൻകരയുടെ വടക്കേയറ്റത്തായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു ദ്വീപസമൂഹമാണ് കനേഡിയൻ ആർട്ടിക് ദ്വീപസമൂഹം (Canadian Arctic Archipelago) അഥവാ ആർട്ടിക് ദ്വീപസമൂഹം (Arctic Archipelago). കാനഡയുടെ വടക്കൻ പ്രദേശത്തിലായി ആർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന 36,563 ദ്വീപുകളുടെ കൂട്ടമായ ഇവയുടെ ആകെ വിസ്തീർണ്ണം 1,424,500 കി.m2 (1.5333×1013 sq ft) ആണ്. വടക്കൻ കാനഡയുടെ സിംഹഭാഗവും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ദ്വീപസമൂഹങ്ങളിൽ നുനാവടിന്റെ മുഖ്യഭാഗവും നോർത്ത് വെസ്റ്റേൺ ടെറിടറികളുടെ ഭാഗങ്ങളുമാണ് ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നത്.[2] ആഗോളതാപനത്തിന്റെ ഫലങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെയും ദൃശ്യമാണ്.[3][4] ഇവിടുത്തെ മഞ്ഞുരുകലിൻറെ തോത് അനുസരിച്ച്, ഏതാണ്ട് 2100 ആവുമ്പോൾ സമുദ്രനിരപ്പ് ഏകദേശം 3.5 സെ.മീ (0.11 അടി) ഉയരുമെന്ന് ചില പഠനങ്ങൾ കരുതുന്നു.[5]

ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രം

ആർട്ടിക് ദ്വീപസമൂഹത്തിൽ ആകെ വിസ്തൃതിയിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ദ്വീപായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ബാഫിൻ ദ്വീപിൻ്റെ ഉപഗ്രഹ ചിത്രം.
എല്ലെസ്മിയർ ദ്വീപിനെയും ആക്‌സൽ ഹൈബർഗ് ദ്വീപ് (എൽലെസ്‌മെയറിൻ്റെ ഇടതുവശത്ത്) ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള അതിൻ്റെ അയൽ ദ്വീപുകളെയും കാണിക്കുന്ന സംയുക്ത സാറ്റലൈറ്റ് ചിത്രം. ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൽ ഗ്രീൻലാൻഡ് വലതുവശത്താണ്.

കിഴക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറായി 2,400 കി.മീ (7,900,000 അടി) വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്ന ഈ ദ്വീപസമൂഹത്തിന്റെ വടക്കേയറ്റമായ എല്ലിസ്മെയർ ദ്വീപിലെ കേപ് കൊളംബിയ, വൻകരയിൽനിന്നും 1,900 കി.മീ (6,200,000 അടി) അകലെയാണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ബ്യൂഫോർട്ട് കടൽ, വടക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ആർട്ടിക് സമുദ്രം; കിഴക്ക് ഗ്രീൻലാന്റ്, ബാഫിൻ ഉൾക്കടൽ ഡേവിസ് കടലിടുക്ക്; തെക്ക് ഹഡ്സൺ ഉൾക്കടൽ എന്നിവയ്ക്കിടയിലായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.

36,563 ദ്വീപുകൾ ഉള്ളതിൽ 94 എണ്ണം 130 കി.m2 (1.399308354×109 sq ft) അധികം വിസ്തൃതിയുള്ളവയാണ്, വിസ്തീർണ്ണം 1,400,000 കി.m2 (1.5×1013 sq ft) ആണ്.[6] ആർട്ടിക് ദ്വീപസമൂഹത്തിലെ 10,000 കി.m2 (1.1×1011 sq ft) അധികം വിസ്തീർണ്ണമുള്ള ദ്വീപുകൾ താഴെപ്പറയുന്നവയാണ്
