イヴァン・ミュラーは二度目のシリーズチャンピオンを獲得し、シボレーは初のマニファクチャラーズタイトルを獲得した。
2010年の世界ツーリングカー選手権は、2010年3月7日にブラジルのクリチバで開幕し、11月21日にマカオ市街で開催される最終戦マカオまで、全11ラウンド・全22戦で争われた。選手権はスーパー2000およびディーゼル2000の車両で争われる[1]。
今シーズンから、F1やWRCに準じた新たなポイントシステムが導入された。優勝者は25ポイント、以下順に18、15、12、10、8、6、4、2と与えられ、10位が1ポイントを獲得する[2]。
最終戦のギア・レース前に、前戦の岡山で行われたレース・オブ・ジャパンでBMWのアウグスト・ファルフスとアンディ・プリオールがシーケンシャル・ギアボックスを使用していたことから結果から除外され、2008年のチャンピオンであるイヴァン・ミュラーが2度目のシリーズタイトルを獲得した[3]。

シボレーは3台体制を維持するため、引退したニコラ・ラリーニに代えてセアト・スポーツからイヴァン・ミュラーを獲得した。ニカ・レーシングがシボレー・モータースポーツ・スウェーデンとして4台目のシボレー・クルーズをイタリアから投入し、レオネル・パーニャがドライブした。5台目のクルーズはヴィンセント・ラダーメッカがベルギーでドライブし、イギリスではカカ・ブエノがドライブした。
BMWは5台体制から2台体制への縮小を発表し、アウグスト・ファルフスがBMWチーム・ジャーマニーからチームRBMへ移籍、アンディ・プリオールとチームメイトとなった。BMWチーム・イタリア/スペインのアレッサンドロ・ザナルディはシリーズから撤退、BMWチーム・ジャーマニーのヨルグ・ミューラーはシュニッツアーからル・マン・シリーズに参戦した。
セアト・スポーツは2010年シリーズからワークスとしては撤退したが、サンレッド・エンジニアリングと共に新たにSR-スポーツを結成、インディペンデント選手権のチャンピオンであるトム・コロネル、セアト・スポーツのドライバーであったジョルディ・ジェネ、ティアゴ・モンテイロ、ガブリエル・タルキーニを起用した。
ステファノ・ディアステがヴィヒャーズ＝スポーツから移籍し、スクーデリア・プロチーム・モータースポーツからシリーズに復帰した。ヴィヒャーズはディアステに代えてエクサゴン・エンジニアリングからメディ・ベナーニを起用した。ディアステのチームメイト、セルジオ・ヘルナンデスはBMWチーム・イタリア/スペインから移籍した。プロチームはイタリアで3台目のドライバーとして、2009年に続いてファビオ・ファビアーニを起用した。
アンドレイ・ロマノフがリキモリ・チーム・エングストラーから再びシリーズに参戦した。前任のクリスチャン・ポールゼンは自らのチーム、ポールゼン・モータースポーツから参戦した。ロマノフは個人的理由でブランズ・ハッチを欠場、代役はティム・コロネルが務めた。
2009年のレース・オブ・ジャーマニーにパーフェクション・レーシングから参戦したマイケル・ニュクイェアーがサンレッド・エンジニアリングに加入した。前任のトム・ボードマンはイギリスツーリングカー選手権に転向したが、地元のレース・オブ・UKにサンレッドから出場した。セアト・レオン・ユーロカップに参加していたフレディ・バースがセアト・スイスチームから参戦した。ゼンゴ・デンション・チームがレオン・ユーロカップのチャンピオン、ノルベルト・ミケルズを擁して参戦した。
イギリスのツーリングカーチーム、バンブー・エンジニアリングがハリー・ヴァルクハードとダリル・オーヤンを擁して参戦した。オーヤンは2009年、プロスピード・コンペティションからFIA GT選手権に参戦していた。ヴァルクハードがスポンサーフィーの不足で撤退した後、代わって谷口行規が参戦した。
2009年にラーダ・スポーツから参戦したジェームス・トンプソンは、ヨーロッパラウンドのみハートマン・レーシングから参加する予定であったが、ラーダがシリーズから撤退したため参加できなかった。
セアトのリカルド・リデルは2010年シーズンは休養を選んだ。その代わり彼はスウェーデンのテレビ局、ヴィアサット・モーターでスウェーデンツーリングカー選手権の解説を行った。
ヤープ・ファン・ラーゲンはポルシェ・スーパーカップに転向した。彼は2008年に同シリーズで7位となっている。
プロチームから2009年に参加したキリル・レディジンとフェリックス・ポルテイロは2010年シーズンには参加しなかった。
マウラー・モータースポーツはマラケシュに3台のシボレー・ラセッティを用意し、モロッコ人レーサーのイスマエル・スバイ、ヨウサフ・エル・マルニッシ、ラービ・タドラオウイを起用した。タドラオウイは個人的理由で参加できず、エル・マルニッシは金曜のテストセッションでクラッシュした。
ピエール＝イヴェス・コルタルは古巣のエクサゴン・エンジニアリングから地元のレース・オブ・ベルギーにスポット参戦した。
2009年のイギリスツーリングカー選手権チャンピオン、コリン・ターキントンはイーベイ・モーターズの支援を受けたウェスト・サリー・レーシングのBMWを駆ってレース・オブ・ポルトガルから参加した。
スウェーデンのポールスター・レーシングとドライバーのロバート・ダールグレンはボルボ・C30を使ってブランズ・ハッチ、岡山に参加した。
開催スケジュール
2010年の暫定カレンダーは2009年6月24日に発表された[38]。最終カレンダーは2009年10月21日に発表された[39]。レース・オブ・メキシコは当初4月11日に開催予定であったが、3月に現地の治安を原因としてキャンセルされた[40]。シリーズのオーガナイザーは代替イベントの開催を模索したが、補給やプロモーション面でイベントプロモーターとの折り合いが付かず、結局中止となり、シーズンは全11戦に縮小された[41]。
