மீடியாப் பேரரசு, கிமு 5ம் நூற்றாண்டில் பாரசீகம் எனும் தற்கால ஈரான் நாட்டின் வடமேற்கு பகுதிகளை முதலில் ஆண்டவர்கள். இவர்களின் சமயம் சொராட்டிரிய நெறி ஆகும். [3] கிமு 678ல் நிறுவப்பட்ட மீடியாப் பேரரசு, பேரரசர் சைரசு கிமு 549ல் மீடியாவை கைப்பற்றும் வரை ஆட்சி செலுத்தியது.
மீடியர்கள் கிமு 1100 - 1000 வரை இரானின் வடமேற்கு மலைப்பகுதிகளிலும், மெசொப்பொத்தேமியாவின் வடகிழக்கு மற்றும் கிழக்கில் உள்ள எகபடனா பகுதிகளில் வாழ்ந்தவர்கள்.[4][5]
கிமு 800 - 700க்கு இடைப்பட்ட காலத்தில் மீடியர்கள் இரானின் மேற்குப் பகுதிகளை மீடியப் பேரரசில் கொண்டு வந்தனர.[6]
பண்டைய பாரசீகத்தின் மீடியப் பேரரசு, தற்கால ஈரானின் வடகிழக்கு, ஈராக்கின் தெற்கு மற்றும் அனதோலியாவின் தெற்கு மற்றும் கிழக்குப் பகுதிகளை ஆட்சி செய்தனர். மீடியர்கள் பழைய பாரசீக மொழியின் உட்பிரிவான மீடியன் மொழியை பேசினர். மீடியர்கள் சொராஷ்டிரிய சமயத்தை பின்பற்றினர். மீடியப் பேரரசின் தலைநகராக இகபடானா (தற்கால ஹமதான்) விளங்கியது.
மேற்கு ஈரானில் நடந்த அகழாய்வில் கிடைத்த தொல்பொருட்கள் மற்றும் சாத்திரக் குறிப்புகளின் அடிப்படையில், மீடியர்கள், அசிரிய மக்கள் மற்றும் பண்டைய கிரேக்கர்களின் சமகாலத்தில் வாழ்ந்தவர்கள் ஆவார்.
